Job Description Summary
The Center for Guaranteed Income Research (CGIR) is an unconditional cash-transfer research center headquartered at the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania. CGIR conducts applied cash-transfer studies and pilot designs in concert with community-based organizations and government stakeholders in order to add to the empirical scholarship on cash, economic mobility, poverty, and narrative change, and is committed to public science that challenges dominant narratives on poverty, deservedness, and economic mobility.

The Biostatistician will provide data management and statistical support to a diverse range of research projects including, but not limited to, clinical trials, observational studies, field experiments, and analysis of administrative records. He/she/they will contribute to study design and protocol development and will write statistical methods and analysis sections for grant proposals. Additionally, the Biostatistician will document and summarize results of research findings for principal investigators, and will write statistical methods sections for presentation and publications, including peer review, white papers, and public data reports to external stakeholders in philanthropy, government, and non-profits. The position oversees the work of research staff and students who assist with data cleaning and management and will also provide quantitative consultation and support for other areas of SP2 as needed.

Position is contingent upon funding.

* All SP2 staff are required to support convocation and graduation as needed.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist investigators with study design and grant proposal development and preparation by writing the data analysis plan and the Statistical Methods and power analysis sections. Participate in study protocol development. Communicate with investigators, CGIR members, and other researchers to understand data requirements for ongoing research projects. Develop, design and write new and/or revised statistical programs and modeling to meet these needs
  • Independently manage databases for assigned research projects; evaluate and ensure statistical integrity, accuracy and validity of research data; oversee the work of research staff and students who assist with data cleaning and management.
  • Write and edit statistical methods sections for abstracts, manuscripts, journal articles, technical reports, and other materials for publication and/ or presentation to external stakeholders
  • Clean, analyze, and interpret research data using modeling, descriptive statistics, basic inferential tests, and advanced statistical procedures; Document methods and results and provides statistical summaries and reports to principal investigators
  • Attend project meetings, read and evaluate statistical papers and other relevant literature, establish and maintain relationships with potential funders.
  • As needed, provide consultation and statistical support for other areas of SP2.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned. All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.


Qualifications
  • Masters and 2-3 years of leadership experience in biostatistics, statistics or related quantitative field with considerable knowledge and command of at least one of the following programming languages: SAS, R or Stata, required or equivalent combination of education and experience required. PhD preferred. At least 2 years of independent experience as a biostatistician in managing large datasets and in utilizing statistical software packages required; experience preparing grant applications and writing research reports preferred. Successful candidate must have experience in a leadership role supervising quantitative research staff and serving in a Co-PI or Co-Investigator role with human subjects. Additional coursework in epidemiology, public health, social work, social policy, and economics considered a plus. Experience with conducting RCTs in field experiments or clinical trials considered a plus.

$61,046.00 - $95,972.00
Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
