Coordinator, Upper Division Academic Advising

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Coordinator for Upper Division Academic Advising position will oversee and supervise the professional advisors in the colleges and schools, as well as liaise with advisors in University College, deans, department chairs, and academic program directors to help build holistic advising structures that recognize the interconnected nature of students' health and personal lives with their academic plans.

Minimum Education/Experience:
This position requires a Master’s degree and 3 years or equivalency of Bachelor’s and 5 years experience in college administration, management, and/or supervision of professional staff, or combination of education and experience. Experience at a four-year institution is preferred. Experience supervising academic advisors is preferred. A strong record of creative problem solving, including strategic thinking and planning, required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills. Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, diplomacy, and discretion and to make difficult and timely decisions with integrity. Proficiency with Banner and degree audit programs and/or the ability to learn new software as required.

Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and families to advise and support undergraduate students through difficult and complicated situations. Experience managing student crises effectively and collaboratively. Demonstrated success supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds is required.

Skills, knowledge and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, first generation college students, LGBTQ students, international students, students from diverse faith communities is preferred.

Ability to use technology in the delivery of services and case management; agility and familiarity with latest software, database systems, computer literacy. Strong teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
