The College of Health Sciences offers pre-professional, professional, and research-focused degrees through its five academic departments: Biomedical Sciences, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Health Informatics & Administration, Kinesiology, and Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology. The College of Health Sciences - with the College of Nursing, the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, and the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health - have formed Partners for Health, a research and interprofessional collaborative.
The UWM Department of Kinesiology engages in the generation, dissemination, integration, and application of knowledge specific to human movement and nutritional sciences. Academic programs within the department include the BS Kinesiology, MS Kinesiology, PhD Kinesiology, accelerated BS Kinesiology-MS Athletic Training, and BS Nutritional Sciences.

UWM has applied to the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) to open a new and innovative program to prepare Registered Dietitian Nutritionists starting in Fall 2023. The eligibility application was accepted by ACEND* and UWM is in the candidacy process for the proposed Future Education Model Graduate program: Master of Public Health - Nutrition and Dietetics.
*The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) released the Future Education Model Accreditation Standards for programs in nutrition and dietetics (see www.eatrightpro.org/FutureModel). These accreditation standards integrate didactic coursework with supervised experiential learning in a competency-based curriculum designed to prepare nutrition and dietetics practitioners for future practice.

Job Summary
The Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position is a 12-month position with teaching and administrative responsibilities that primarily supports the B.S. Nutritional Sciences program and the MPH-Nutrition & Dietetics program (in development), along with service-related responsibilities.
Teaching responsibilities (73%): This position will be the primary instructor for Advanced Nutrition & Metabolism (Undergraduate/Graduate-level) and Nutrition & Disease Prevention (Undergraduate-level), Medical Nutrition Therapy I (Graduate-level), Medical Nutrition Therapy II (Graduate-level), and Medical Nutrition Therapy Field Experience (Graduate-level).
Administrative responsibilities (20%): The Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring the clinical supervised experiential learning (SEL) opportunities woven throughout the MPH-Nutrition & Dietetics program.

Specific teaching and administrative responsibilities associated with this position as follows:
  1. Cultivate a student-centered, innovative instructional environment that includes dynamic and engaging classroom experiences that facilitate the attainment of clinical dietetics-related knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  2. Support the development of students to become culturally competent and compassionate nutrition and dietetic practitioners.
  3. In consultation with the Program Director, recruit and retain quality clinical preceptors.
  4. In consultation with the Program Director, manage the clinical SEL rotation schedule to meet the student and preceptors needs.
  5. In partnership with the Program Director, provide leadership, oversight, and mentoring of clinical preceptors related to preceptor/student conflict resolution.
  6. In collaboration with the Program Director, assist with maintenance of program accreditation tasks including:
  7. Assisting with formally orienting preceptors to the program mission, goals, and objectives of the MPH-Nutrition & Dietetics program, the ACEND standards and required competencies.
  8. Assisting with the maintenance of Preceptor and SEL Site Rosters and associated affiliation agreements.
  9. Maintaining program-level documentation regarding SEL hours and ensuring programmatic adherence to ACEND SEL-related requirements.
  10. Maintaining the program's student records, specifically student accrual of clinical SEL hours and progress towards attaining ACEND competencies.
  11. Following the program's established process to conduct a student survey of clinical preceptors and SEL facilities on a routine basis and summarize the results.
  12. Following the program's established process to conduct a formal evaluation of clinical preceptors and SEL facilities on a routine basis to ensure appropriateness and summarize the results.
  13. Assisting with maintenance of the Competency Assessment Plan and Curriculum Map as courses are revised in accordance with the Continuous Program Improvement Plan.
  14. In partnership with the Program Director and program faculty/staff, actively participate in the program evaluation and improvement process, including formal curriculum review and revision.
  15. In collaboration with the Program Director and program faculty/staff, revise the Medical Nutrition Therapy courses and clinical Supervised Experiential Learning curriculum to keep them current, effective, and evidence-based.
  16. In partnership with the Program Director and program faculty/staff, assist with student recruitment/admissions, advisement, and evaluation, as appropriate.
  17. Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and accrediting bodies' rules and regulations.
  18. All other duties as assigned.


For service to UWM and the profession (7%): The applicant will work collaboratively within and outside of the Department, College, and Campus. UWM service includes attending Department and College meetings, as well as serving on college and campus committees. Participation in professional service, such as maintenance of certifications and attending conferences, is expected.

The responsibilities associated with this position may be modified/revised based on the evolving needs of the BS Nutritional Sciences program and the MPH-Nutrition & Dietetics program (in development).

The University of Wisconsin (UW) System offers a comprehensive benefits package to meet the diverse needs of our community. This position will be granted 176 hours (22 days) of vacation, 36 hours of personal holiday, and nine (9) paid legal holidays per fiscal year. Sick leave will be granted at 176 hours (22 days) of initial entitlement for the first 18 months of employment, after the Initial entitlement period, you may earn up to 96 hours (12 days) of sick leave per fiscal year which continues to accumulate. This position offers a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience with an expected salary between $85,000 - $95,000 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • Three years of professional experience practicing as an RDN in clinical dietetics
  • One year of experience in dietetics education (or related field) including teaching courses, creating and/or revising curriculum, advising, precepting, and/or mentoring students
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience managing an accredited program in higher education
  • Experience coordinating field placements of students in an accredited program in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and professionally with administrators, faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience working with students, clients, and colleagues from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, and persons of all ages and lifestyles
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), clinical program management software (e.g., EXXAT), and/or electronic health record training programs (e.g., EHR-GO)
