Associate Chairperson of Undergraduate Architecture - School of Architecture (71100)


Location: Brooklyn, NY

Description:
The Undergraduate Architecture Department in the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute invites applications for a full-time Associate Chairperson of Undergraduate Architecture position to begin prior to the Fall 2023 semester.

Pratt Undergraduate Architecture five-year year, accredited degree granting program, culminating in a Bachelors of Architecture conferred upon graduation. It exists as the largest program at Pratt and one of the largest Bachelors of Architecture programs in the country.

The Associate Chair reports directly to the Chair and leads, with the Chair, the development, implementation, and management of strategies and protocols implemented to enrich the academic life of the students, faculty, and staff of the Undergraduate Architecture Department at Pratt.

The Pratt Institute School of Architecture (SoA) educates future leaders in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban and community planning, construction and facilities management, real estate practice, environmental management, historic preservation, and urban placemaking. We see the design, planning, and management of the built environment as tools for addressing the critical issues of our time—including social justice and the climate crisis. Students at the Pratt SoA build the skills and knowledge needed to respond to these complex and evolving challenges in a uniquely versatile, innovative, and ethical way in an environment of disciplinary, intellectual, and cultural diversity.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Leadership

  • Support the Chairperson with recruitment, selection, and retention of Faculty & Staff keeping diversity top of mind in the process.

  • Assist the Chair with implementing the department function in accordance with strategic goals of the Institute and the School.

  • Assist in the management of departmental publications, administrative functions and educational programs of the department.

  • Support the daily operations of the department, alongside the Chair and other staff members.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Participate in curriculum coordination and program development. Assist with the implementation of developments in curriculum overall as it pertains to accreditation requirements of the professional degree.

  • Manage and track new adjustments in accreditation requirements, and execute staff appointments and faculty workloads.

  • Participate and assist in overseeing program accreditation.

Student Support

  • Advise and mentor students.

  • Assist in coordinating various end-of-the-semester, mid-program, and end-of-degree reviews as well as assist with internal and external exhibition events.

  • Assist the Chair in the outreach efforts of the institute to alumni, professional organizations, businesses, and community groups.

Perform all other related activities and carry out special projects as requested by the Chair.



Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must hold a masters level professional degree in architecture (M.Arch. or equivalent);

  • Have at least five academic years of teaching experience in architecture design studios at the college level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience as an academic administrator in higher education including experience with curriculum development, planning, and assessment.

SALARY is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Range for position salary is $100,300 to $115,100.

This is an administrative 4 day per week, hybrid position.
