Automotive Service Technician (Grant Funded)

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN (FULL TIME/GRANT FUNDED)

Olive-Harvey College is looking for a full time Automotive Technician responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing heavy duty trucks, buses, and other vehicles used in the commercial truck driving training program for the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (TDL) department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspects vehicles, determines diagnoses and repairs vehicles according to specifications.
• Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles to ensure they remain operable.
• Maintains service records on each vehicle.
• Orders repair supplies and maintains stockroom inventories.
• Performs daily vehicle drivability tests to ensure that vehicles are safe for student use. Prepares daily vehicle inspection reports.
• Ensures that all vehicles meet state inspection requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent, and possess a valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver’s License. Must possess a good driving record.
• ASE certification required or supplemented by a minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle repair and large vehicle repair.
• Ability to diagnose the cause of mechanical failure, complex drivability problems, and safety problems in automotive equipment and determine appropriate repairs needed.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and skillfully. Ability to safely lift objects weighing 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of the techniques and procedures to diagnose mechanical and operating problems in automotive equipment.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance inspection techniques and knowledge of safe working techniques.
