The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Mathematics to join our community starting in August 2023. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance.

Position Summary:

We are seeking broadly trained applicants from all areas of the mathematical sciences who are strongly committed to high-quality teaching and deep student engagement in a primarily undergraduate, residential, liberal arts-centered institution. The typical teaching load is 3 to 4 courses per semester and will include a variety of courses at the introductory and mid-levels of the undergraduate curriculum, including Calculus and Statistics. The position will also include course coordination for several multi-section departmental courses: Introduction to Functions, Business Calculus, and Statistics.

Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education , demonstrated through, for example, culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship.

Qualifications:

Applicants should:
  • Have a Ph.D. or ABD in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong teaching record appropriate for the candidate’s career stage, and/or a teaching/learning philosophy that reflects a diversity of thought and experience—through instruction, research, or experiential learning from a professional/corporate/industrial sector, etc.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering student success for students in all majors.
  • Demonstrate interest in course coordination, including strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other instructors.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in course coordination.
  • Fluency in use of current best teaching practices, including active learning.

The Mathematics and Statistics Department is a collegial department of teacher-scholars with strong interest in excellence in teaching and mentored undergraduate research.
