The Center for the Study of Human Health (CSHH) at Emory University seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor for our Program in Predictive Health to begin Fall semester of 2023.  The CSHH is an interdisciplinary liberal arts program that supports a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Human Health, a joint major in Economics and Health, and minors in Global Health, Culture and Society; Nutrition Science; and Predictive Health through innovative courses and scholarly endeavors with broad perspectives on health and the human condition.

We seek an individual trained in the science of health and well-being, based in physiology and engaged in cross-disciplinary work focused on determinants of health.  The Emory Program in Predictive Health is an expanding program for which individuals with scholarly expertise in a range of fields are encouraged to apply. Relevant research interests include, but are not limited to, human development, immunology, psychoneuroimmunology, nutrition, epigenetics, health technologies, or other fundamental processes that define the biology of health. Experience working at the interface of basic to clinical science and individual to population research is highly valuable to the goals and educational objectives of the program.

Experience teaching innovative, evidence-based courses in human health at the undergraduate level is necessary.  Successful candidates should be capable of teaching courses on, but not limited to, their area of expertise, integrative concepts of health and well-being, developmental origins of health, biobehavioral facets of health, and biological and mechanistic pathways including a systems perspective. Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate their discipline with a broad liberal arts perspective. A history of research and mentoring students outside the classroom are required.

This is a full‐time, teaching-track position requiring teaching of five courses per academic year, including large lecture courses and small seminars. The initial appointment will be for a period of three years with renewals and promotions possible within the teaching‐track system, as detailed in the Emory College of Arts and Sciences Guidelines for Appointment of Teaching-Track Faculty (http://college.emory.edu/faculty/faculty/promotion-teaching-track.html).

Applicants who hold a relevant doctorate should submit a curriculum vitae, a personal statement describing teaching experience and teaching philosophy, two (2) syllabi from representative courses taught, a description of previous and current leadership efforts and contributions, and contact information for three (3) references. Along with these materials, include a brief statement that addresses your past activities and future plans to advance equity, inclusion, and diversity in your professional career. Review begins December 10, 2022 Submit your application and references by February 1, 2023 for full consideration. Reference letters will be requested for selected candidates during the review process. Please direct questions to the Human Health Search Committee, Human.Health@emory.edu.
