Job Description:
Basic Function and Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager of Accounting is responsible for sustaining a complete and systematic set of accounting records, post-award grant compliance, accounts payable, and other accounting-related functions of the College. The position will apply technical knowledge and expertise to ensure applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed. Work is performed with independence in decision making within generally accepted accounting principles and established granting agency requirements as well as federal, state, and College guidelines, rules, and regulations. The Senior Manager of Accounting keeps accounting practices up to date and ensures staff development.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the accounting function by ensuring college policy and
government regulations are met, promoting exceptional customer
service, maintaining modern practices and technology, and managing
staff.
- Manage, direct, and review the work of the accounting staff to
sustain a complete and systematic set of records of all financial
transactions of the College.
- Formulate, interpret, and implement accounting processes,
procedures, and internal controls to ensure the College's
financials are operating in accordance with Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal/state
regulations.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of process documentation
for all accounting related functions and ensure adequate cross
training and professional development for accounting and accounts
payable staff.
- Manage accounting-related business process enhancement efforts
by identifying and making recommendations to improve operations and
customer service.
- Lead the fiscal administration of post-award grant accounting
and compliance, which includes grant contract procedures,
accounting and reporting, and compliance for the College's grant
portfolio.
- Lead and contribute to the College's month-end closing process,
which includes posting journal entries to ensure proper monthly
reporting.
- Post all property tax levies, collections, and county
adjustments to General Ledger; complete all related month and
fiscal year end reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and investment
reports.
- Supervise the proper and timely filing of state and federal
regulatory forms and reports.
- Manage and contribute to the completion of workpapers,
schedules, and accounting adjustments for the annual financial
audit.
- Act as the College's expert for the Banner Accounting System
and identify and test business processes and workflow within the
Banner system. Develop employee communication, training materials,
and web/portal content.
- Cultivate and maintain excellent customer service for internal
and external customers in the College Community, responding to
inquires timely and accurately.
- Perform other duties job related as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- Bachelor's degree required in Accounting, Business
Administration, Finance or related field or an equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable
knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in the field
of accounting is required.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working with Ellucian Banner
platform, or similar ERP system.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is
preferred.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills are
required. Must be able to regularly explain policies, write and
edit reports and coordinate the work of others.
- Requires the ability to mentally attend to and visually
concentrate on a substantial amount of detail work.
- Must be able to participate in professional development
training to stay up to date in the accounting field.
- Intermediate word processing and advanced spreadsheet
application skills are required.
- Intermediate competencies in the use of personal computer software including databases, macros, and formula authoring skills are preferable
Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from the Assistant Financial Controller.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision is exercised accounting staff employees, and any part-time staff, consultants and student employees.
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available. Please note, that during the 65 working day probationary period, employees are required to report to campus.
HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm
SALARY: $73,236
