Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is looking for an experienced, collaborative administrator with expertise in assessment and accreditation work to serve as our next Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Assessment (AVPAAA). The successful candidate will have a demonstrable record of success in data-informed assessment and accreditation processes and a desire to engage collegially across the university to maximize student success and retention and maintain best practices in institutional assessment. Additionally the AVPAAA will have special responsibility for key units of Academic Affairs including oversight of the Career Center, Faculty Resource Center, and A Child’s Place (an on-campus student childcare center)

 

Job Overview

 The AVPAAA reports directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and coordinates key academic operations, working cooperatively with the deans and faculty of the university’s four schools as well as other academic leaders. The AVPAAA also works closely with the Provost to ensure programmatic strength and success across the curriculum and to implement strategic initiatives. Of primary importance is the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the institutional assessment plan, including assessment of student learning and the strategic plan. The AVPAAA also coordinates accreditations, serves as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation liaison officer, and collaborates with Institutional Research on data gathering and analysis. The AVPAAA will be able to take the lead in designing clear processes and metrics to ensure effective assessment and successful outcomes.

Primary responsibilities

  1. Development, implementation and evaluation of the institutional assessment plan
    1. Serve as Chair of the University Assessment Committee.
    2. Lead assessment of student learning and of non-academic units
    3. Coordinate with director of institutional research for data collection, integrity, and analysis, especially through annual dashboards or reporting.
    4. Coordinate and monitor student participation in assessment activities 
  2. Accreditation coordination
    1. Serve as the MSCHE Accreditation Liaison Officer.
    2. Lead all preparation and reports for MSCHE Annual Institutional Updates (AIU).
    3. Coordinate Mid-point and Eight-year MSCHE Reaffirmation efforts.
    4. Coordinate individual program’s/school’s accreditations as needed  
    5. Oversee and archive departmental program reviews 
  3. Oversight of Academic Operations
    1. Serve on the Provost’s Council
    2. Compile annual retention report 
    3. Prepare and deliver associate faculty orientation.
    4. Coordinate with the registrar’s office on the annual catalog updates
    5. Coordinate academic portions of student handbook and website 
    6. Coordinate faculty professional development opportunities related to instructional technology and online teaching.
    7. Oversee professional licensure compliance protocols; coordinate the development of policies and procedures, and update web page artifacts and disclosures.
    8. Oversee A Child’s Place
    9. Oversee the Career Center
  4. Oversight of Online Program Development, Delivery, and Supervision
    1. Serve in partnership with IR as the liaison to NC-SARA and prepare annual compliance reports.
    2. Supervise NDMU online partnership with OPM partner.
    3. Work with the Director of the Faculty Resource Center to oversee the LMS and coordinate any new implementations of LMS or Instructional Technology.
    4. Monitor program and degree completion for all online programs in conjunction with the registrar.
    5. Serve as the liaison to federal partnerships and online programs in Risk Management.
  5. Collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Life 
    1. Represent Academic Affairs on Honor Board academic violations. 
    2. Handle student issues related to academics.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Earned doctoral degree in an academic discipline from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience: Three to five years of increasing responsibility in higher education administration with a successful record in assessment, accreditation work, academic advising, and strategic planning is necessary. 
  • Skills/Aptitude: Must have the ability to collaborate and communicate well. Must possess dynamic leadership and management skills; strong analytical and decision making skills; exceptional written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Requires some evening and weekend hours and some travel off-site.
