Job Summary:

The Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptional facial plastic surgeon to join our well-established Section of Facial Plastic Surgery. In line with the expecations of the tenure track, we are looking for applicants with a track record of, or early career interest in, clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training, practice experience, research scholarship, teaching, and execution of scholarly activities.

This position involves joining a burgeoning section with tremendous opportunities for growth clinically and in all arms of the academic mission. Clinical resources and opportunities include:
- Free standing academic cosmetic surgery clinic including two procedure rooms and state of the art lasers
- Dedicated facial plastic & reconstructive surgery resident rotation with opportunities to participate in educational courses
- Robust multidisciplinary facial nerve clinic infrastructure, including a patient navigator and neuromuscular retraining therapy experienced specialist
- Opportunities for microtia repair
- Multidisciplinary Mohs reconstruction clinic
- Participation in an established global surgery program
- Supported gender services program including opportunities in facial gender affirming care

The UW Department of Surgery is consistently ranked amongst the top extramural research funding programs and is currently 8th in the nation according to Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department provides a robust infrastructure of services through a Qualitative Research Core, Histology Core, Statistical Analysis and Programming Core, Grant Management Team, Grant Writing Support Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR) in support of health services research and Office of Clinical Research in support of clinical trials. Additional resources provided include patient reported outcomes infrastructure built into clinical operations and electronic medical records.

The Division of Otolaryngology at UW SMPH
A faculty of 30 provides clinical expertise in head and neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, otology-neurotology-lateral skull base surgery, comprehensive otolaryngology, laryngology, rhinology-skull base surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery across a UW Health hospital system and William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. Education within the division includes a commitment to medical student education, an ACGME-accredited residency program of 15 residents and fellowships in Laryngology and Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery. Active research programs within the Division in six investigator labs include 29 funded extramural grants. The Division provides full-spectrum otolaryngology care for adults and children in six clinical practice sites in the Madison area and six outreach sites across Wisconsin and Illinois.

Clinical activity : We seek a facial plastic surgeon with interest, skill, and enthusiasm in the care of patients with reconstructive and aesthetic needs of the face, head & neck. The applicant should have command of the core knowledge and understanding of medical sciences relevant to these regions and advanced diagnostic and medical and surgical management skills for the following: reconstruction of defects in the head and neck through local or regional flap reconstruction, microtia repair, facial nerve management and reanimation techniques; advanced aesthetic procedures and surgery of the face, head & neck; and repair of facial trauma. The applicant is expected to work collaboratively and inclusively within and across related fields including dermatology, plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery and with colleagues within the division and department. Clinical in-patient and out-patient practices are supported by a team of 12 Advance Practice Providers. Occasional otolaryngology on-call coverage and regional outreach clinical commitments are shared amongst all faculty.

Research program: The successfully recruited surgeon on the Tenure Track (TT) will also participate in and is expected to develop robust original and high-quality lines of research inquiry. The applicant will conduct research activities that may draw on numerous available collaborators. The Department of Surgery provides access to core resources including biostatistics, research programming, software development, clinical data/electronic medical records analysis and qualitative research support with robust support for internal or industry-sponsored clinical trials.

Education (included in clinical activity): Faculty in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery share a commitment to education at levels of medical student, resident training, and continuing medical education. Clinical and sub-intern UWSMPH medical students and resident physicians in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery are included in daily clinical activities. An active commitment to training the next generation of otolaryngologist-head & neck surgeons including a commitment to ACGME-accredited residency training otolaryngology-head & neck surgery and especially in facial plastic key indicator cases.

Service and Leadership (included in clinical activity): The successful applicant will be an active participant in regional and national professional associations.

Academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. Qualifications:

License/certification:
Specialization must include eligibility or certification in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) or by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (AOBOOHNS); and are currently participating in or have completed an AAFPRS Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship; and are eligible for or have successfully completed the ABFPRS Written and Oral Examinations.

Candidates are required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin medical license and must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges.
