Dean, Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions

The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks nominations, applications and expressions of interest in its search for an engaging, innovative and mission-driven academic leader to serve as the institution's next dean of the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP).

Inspired to advance the mission of health across the world, the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) is a diverse and thriving learning community committed to preparing tomorrow's leaders through state-of-the art skills, critical thinking, ethical decision-making, multi-cultural competencies and lifelong leadership development. Founded in 1931, SNHP responded to a call from the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word pioneering the idea of a total system of support to offer the latest preventive, diagnostic and treatment facilities to care for the mind, body and spirit of all the people of San Antonio and South Texas. SNHP was the first accredited school west of the Mississippi River to offer a baccalaureate degree in nursing. SNHP currently offers a full complement of nursing programs (traditional BSN, accelerated BSN, MSN and DNP), as well as community health education, healthcare sciences, kinesiology and nuclear medicine technology baccalaureate degrees and a master's degree in sport management (in conjunction with the HEB School of Business and Administration). The SNHP dean also oversees the Nursing Cardinal Wellness Clinic.

Reporting directly to the associate provost for health professions, the dean serves as the chief academic administrator of the school providing academic administrative leadership for a multidiscipline school as a member of the provost's council and health professions deans' council. A champion for student, faculty and staff success and inclusive excellence, the dean will be an advocate for SNHP and all of its programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership and passion in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and global engagement, possessing a profound commitment and eagerness to embrace the healing ministry of SNHP's Catholic mission of service with a deep understanding to address social inequities and justice through education. The dean must also understand accreditation processes and the academic process for tenure-track and tenured faculty promotion and for promotion of staff and non-tenured/tenure track faculty. The incoming dean is required to have an earned doctoral degree and a record suitable for tenured appointment in a field appropriate for SNHP.

UIW is the largest Catholic university in Texas and serves approximately 10,000 students globally. The university is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with 54% of its students coming from Hispanic/Latino heritage. UIW offers more than 90 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations and more than 20 graduate and doctoral programs. These include doctoral degrees in education, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, physical therapy, osteopathic medicine, vision science and business administration.
