Residential Community Coordinator

Position Title: Residential Community Coordinator

Position Summary: The Residential Community Coordinator is committed to the total development within an inclusive community through residential experiences actualized in community experiences, intentional conversations, reflection, restorative practices, and group dialogue. The position requires the individual to use sound judgment and exhibit a caring personality to handle student issues and crises in a sensitive and timely manner. The Residential Community Coordinator is responsible for facilitating a vibrant, supportive, and life-enhancing environment in the residence halls. Some evening and weekend time commitments are involved to attend events and handle incidents that occur outside of the normal work schedule. The Residential Community Coordinator responsible for the daily operations at Lincoln Hall, which serves approximately 350 student residents, is a full-time, live-in position with a food plan.

Essential Functions:
Plan, initiate, coordinate and facilitate programs and activities that are educational, developmental, purposeful, and engaging for the assigned campus residential community. Implement conflict resolution strategies, meet and confer with students to address their concerns/conflicts with other students and/or roommates, and address students’ conduct issues within the residential community. Serve as a resource for students/residents seeking guidance and direction with personal/community/academic problems or conflicts.

Lead tours of housing facilities and participate in information sessions as requested by University Admissions to inform prospective students and their parents about housing options. Coordinate room transfers among residents in response to student requests. Update records in the appropriate software system (Banner/StarRez) to keep room assignment information accurate and current. Track and report occupancy to ensure services meet student needs and prepare budget requests and reports.

Determine housing needs for summer camps and conferences. Schedule facility use and maintenance to minimize inconvenience to summer residents and avoid conflict with maintenance activities. Assign accommodations and make other arrangements for groups using residence halls during summer camps and conferences, working around maintenance and repair work to ensure that accommodations are for short-term summer residents. Work with the Residential Living office to coordinate housing needs for incoming summer camps and conferences.

Inspect housing facilities, review maintenance requests and work with Facilities Services to request maintenance and repair to keep housing facilities fully functional and in good repair. Monitor and respond to requests and inquiries received via social media.

Based on needs during academic semesters and over the summer, determine staffing needs and help select, train, supervise and evaluate RAs and other student employees. Develop work schedules to ensure facilities are staffed according to identified needs. Recruit, hire, supervise and manage staff to cover the front desk.

Serve as a Student Conduct Administrator for violations of Residential Living policies and the Student Conduct Code occurring in Residential Living Facilities.

Conduct RA staff meetings; plan, schedule, and lead or make arrangements for in-service training sessions to communicate concerns and promote staff development. Coordinate other training and staffing events as assigned by appropriate staff. In addition, provide backup and support for other residential community coordinators to facilitate the success of Residential Living programs and initiatives.

Review the department website and alert staff of outdated information. Offer suggestions for website content to assist with website content management.

Work with staff to develop learning outcomes and assessment measurements for students in Residential Living. Develop and maintain a body of knowledge relative to Title IX and serve as the Title IX resource for Residential Living staff and students. Collaborate with the appropriate university staff to support University efforts to develop Title IV initiatives and strengthen Title IX performance and compliance throughout the University.

Identify and share opportunities for continuing education and staff development with other Residential Living staff to promote professional development within the Department.

Serve as a student conduct administrator for violations of Residential Living policies and the Student Conduct Code occurring in Residential Living Facilities.

Serve on committees to plan and implement events and address other relevant issues to represent Residential Living and support the campus community. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.

One year of experience in college/university housing or other student life/affairs areas.

Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills and a commitment to student development.

A demonstrated intercultural competence and knowledge of principles of community.

Effective interpersonal, group, and cross-cultural communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Student Personnel/Development, counseling or a related field or current enrollment in a master’s level certification program in College Student Administration, or enrollment in a certified College Student Administration Program.

One year of experience in college/university housing.

Familiarity with Ellucian Banner, StarRez, Maxient, SafeColleges, and data entry.
