Two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of American Studies

The American Studies Program at Williams College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) to begin July 1, 2023. We seek a scholar of Black Studies, and/or Latinx Studies, who uses comparative race, ethnicity, or indigeneity in their approach. Scholars whose research and teaching foreground racial capitalism, disability, environment, or social movements/activism are especially encouraged to apply, as are scholars with degrees in interdisciplinary fields. The candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand at the start of the appointment, and be prepared to teach an introduction to American Studies course and/or a junior-level theories and methods seminar in American Studies. The successful candidate will be appointed full-time for a term of two years and will have a teaching load of two courses each semester. Compensation includes salary, insurance benefits, and an allowance each year for professional travel expenses.

Qualifications

We especially welcome applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in the academy. Williams is an institution that places a high value on undergraduate teaching. Thus, the search committee seeks applicants whose supporting materials demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching and working effectively with a student, staff, and faculty population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religious views, socioeconomic status, experience with higher education, and more.
