We are proud to be a values-led, research-intensive university that makes a significant contribution to our city, region and globally. Our core values of equality, diversity, inclusion, social and environmental justice and academic freedom are at the heart of everything we do. The University now seeks to appoint an exceptional individual as the next Dean and CEO of Newcastle University in Singapore (NUiS).

Newcastle University has been operating in Singapore since 2007 when we introduced courses to meet the needs of leading figures in the marine sector. In 2009 we joined forces with the Singapore Institute of Technology to launch our Singapore operation. Since then, over 1,000 students have graduated in major areas of Engineering and Science. The Singapore campus of Newcastle University provides a regional hub for international research collaborations and industry partnerships. The campus is home to more than 20 academic experts working across a range of disciplines.

The Dean and CEO reports jointly to the Pro Vice Chancellor Global and Sustainability and Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE). The Dean and CEO will provide strategic leadership to Newcastle University’s operation and ambitions in Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region.

The key priorities for the incoming Dean and CEO are to sustain strong strategic relationships with the University’s educational, government and commercial partners in Singapore. They will work with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SITs) to ensure innovative and high-quality programmes, and to grow student numbers. Regarding research, the Dean and CEO will develop an ambitious strategy that links researchers in both Southeast Asia and the UK with a focus on translational research. They will also develop Newcastle’s CPD offering and other opportunities for lifelong learning.

The successful candidate will possess excellent ambassadorial and relationship building skills. The role will require strategic leadership and negotiation experience, and the ability to identify and to capitalise on opportunities. The ideal candidate would be engaging, collegiate, flexible and ambitious in their approach. They will have excellent communication skills and will be experienced in working in an international environment. The successful candidate will be familiar with both the UK and the Southeast Asia Higher Education sectors.
