Job Description:

Basic Function and Responsibilities:

This position works directly with Oakton students in health career pathways, pre-health career programs of study, and EMT/Paramedic pathways, particularly who are disproportionately impacted by systemic barriers, acting as a resource liaison and providing support with the intention of ensuring credential attainment. This position works collaboratively with faculty, internal departments, and external partners including regional workforce partners. Provides direct service to students, as well as researches, develops and coordinates programming aimed at identifying and overcoming barriers to completion for students including those who are part of special programming (i.e. Emory Williams Academy, work-based learning programs, Skokie Health/Human Services workforce initiative, etc.).

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to students in collaboration with their assigned academic advisor in order to accelerate their coursework toward a credential.
  • Recommend and implement high impact practices for students that reduce opportunity gaps and increase persistence and completion, especially students disproportionately impacted by system barriers.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and effective relationship with internal departments such as the Office of Access, Equity, & Diversity, Business and Financial Aid Services, Advising Services, Wellness Center, Education Foundation, Research and Planning, Learning Center, and Admissions, for the purpose of aiding students in making connections with aforementioned departments.
  • Act as liaison and main point of contact between students and support service opportunities both internal and external including but not limited to the Caring Closet, Counseling Services, Food Pantry, housing insecurity resources.
  • Identify systemic barriers to student enrollment and success via student needs assessments and collaborate with internal and external partners to develop mechanisms to overcome such barriers (workshops, group mentoring sessions, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to support students as they enter, navigate, grow and transition in and out of Oakton. Inform both faculty and students of available resources.
  • Work closely with identified student clubs and organizations for the purpose of effective communication targeting them about student success opportunities.
  • Develop partnerships and lead the implementation support that connects traditionally underrepresented student populations to available resources interventions (i.e. TRIO, Service Learning, Financial Aid, WIOA, etc.). Represent the College in Community Facing Events geared toward fostering student experience including entering the College.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, WorkForce Development, Counseling, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired as necessary.
  • One year teaching/counseling/programming experience with adult-aged students/clients required, preferably within a post-secondary environment.
  • Computer competence including Microsoft office suite, google suite.
  • Ability to develop and design new programs and activities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to professionally manage student confidential and sensitive information.
Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature.

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision received from the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs/Dean of Curriculum and Instruction. Functional supervision received from the Project Implementation Manager.

Supervision Exercised:

None

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 am

SALARY: $54,712

This is a temporary grant position and continued employment, is based on the successful renewal of the grant.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available. Please note, that during the 65 working day probationary period, employees are required to report to campus.

Oakton is accessible by public transportation.
