Job Description:
This position supports the Department of Computer Information Science at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching courses in computer information technology, computer science, data science, health informatics, and management information systems programs; engaging in research and scholarly activities, seeking funding for research activities individually and collaboratively and/or curricular support; advising students; supporting student growth and educational experiences; continuing professional preparation; participating in the work of the department and service to the university and community.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.



  • The successful candidate may need to teach several of the courses listed below, along with additional courses depending on the department's needs: computer architecture, parallel and distributed systems, cloud computing, network architecture, network security, wireless networks, health informatics, data analytics, data engineering, data science, database security and auditing, operating systems, software engineering, software testing, artificial intelligence, computer programming, data structures, database management systems, information security, and/or systems analysis and design.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).


Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in computer science, computer information science, data science, information technology, management information systems, or a closely related field. (ABD candidates will be considered. The degree must be conferred on an official transcript and submitted to Human Resources before August 14, 2023.)



  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations including first-generation students, second-language learners, international students, and other student populations that are under-represented in the STEM fields.

  • Strong ability to communicate and collaborate with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Demonstrated willingness to work individually and collaboratively as a member of teaching and research teams.

  • Experience in industry, military, post-doctoral research, and/or formal and informal educational settings.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:The Department of Computer Information Science is comprised of 15 full-time faculty members actively engaged in teaching, research, and service. The department offers undergraduate majors in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Application Development, and Health Informatics; master’s degrees in Information Technology, Data Science, Information Security & Risk Management, and Health Informatics and Analytics; and minors and certificates for students with varying interests and backgrounds.
