Financial Aid Counselor
About the Opportunity
Responsibilities:
The Financial Aid Counselor will advise and counsel full and part-time undergraduate students/families on the availability of financial aid, the delivery process for receiving it, and the reconciliation processes required to insure that financial aid funds are transferred to student accounts. The Financial Aid Counselor will also review student applications, perform verification procedures, review/evaluate appeals, and intercede for students with participating departments (deans, customer service, registrar, co-op).
In addition, they will assist in the reconciliation of federal loans using the Financial Aid Management System. The individual will assist in processing of federal and alternative educational loans during peak seasons. This Individual will work with the Sr. Assistant Director to manage the daily disbursement process of Direct Loans, Intuitional Aid, and alternative Loans. The Financial Aid Counselor will assist other financial aid counselors in resolution of loan problems and meet with and interact over the phone with lenders, guarantors, and servicers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience in student personnel administration, preferably in
financial aid or college admissions
- Knowledge of Title IV Regulations, federal financial aid, and
need analysis preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational
skills
- Ability to communicate well by telephone and email, in addition
to face-to-face interactions
- Willingness and ability to give presentations to large groups
of students and their families
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow, Banner, Microsoft Teams,
Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student
population
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem solving
skills
- Flexible Work Schedule
