OPPORTUNITY

The University of Dallas seeks its next leader for the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business. The Dean joins the College at a pivotal stage in its history as it strategically aligns its offerings with the University’s vision of a premier Catholic liberal arts university. The Dean will have the opportunity to lead a new era of graduate business education grounded in a firm commitment to virtue-based ethical formation of students, the principles of Catholic social teaching, and the liberal arts pillars of a liberal education. The Dean will be a dynamic change agent who is challenged to establish the reputation of the College as a premier provider of business education, to transform the student profile and experience, to champion the College’s unique career development and character formation educational experience, and to grow a faculty to support the college’s distinctive approach to business education.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibility of the Dean is to lead the transformation of the College.

To this end, the successful Dean will:

1. Transform the educational experience

  • Lead efforts to develop and implement the plan to elevate the College’s student profile and formation to align with its vision of a premier educational institution.
  • Lead efforts to institutionalize and advance Catholic social teaching and virtue as the bases for educating business students regarding the rights and responsibilities of business professionals and organizations and their role in society.
  • Lead efforts to reimagine business education as the praxis of the liberal arts serving as a basis for an enduring and life-long liberal education.
  • Lead innovation and effective development of extracurricular initiatives, including non-credit professional and executive education, research centers, corporate-college partnerships, and community outreach programming.

2. Transform the College’s reputation and recognition

  • Lead efforts to elevate awareness of the College and its reputation in the local, regional, and national community.

3. Transform the College as a partner to constituents

  • Establish meaningful partnerships with alumni, corporate and non-profit leaders, and benefactors to advance the interests of the College, University, and profession.
  • Fully engage and excite faculty and staff members in pursuing the College's academic Mission while efficiently managing college operations.
  • Maintain a constructive relationship with the College’s primary accreditor, AACSB, and ensure the College’s conformation to and retention of its accreditation status.
  • Effectively represent the College’s interests among internal constituencies and advance the careers of its faculty and staff members within the University.

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., DBA, SJD/JD-LLM) in a disciplinary field represented in the College’s course or program offerings.
  • Professional industry experience in a business or non-profit leadership role, or business consulting experience, or successful entrepreneurial or business ownership, or an established client-serving professional practice.
  • College administrative experience at the program, department, associate dean, or dean level.
  • College teaching experience in a full-time tenured faculty appointment at a regionally accredited higher education institution (if requesting a faculty appointment).
  • Publication credentials qualify as scholarly-academic according to the College’s AACSB accreditation requirements (if requesting a faculty appointment).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Candidates will be evaluated for the following characteristics, including but not limited to:

  • Knowledge of the implications of Ex corde Ecclesiae for providing business education at Catholic higher education institutions.
  • Knowledge of Catholic social thought relevant to professionals, business entities, and their role in society.
  • Knowledge of virtue-based ethics, leadership virtues, or virtue formation.
  • Knowledge regarding the liberal arts and their role in the formation of students.
  • Ability to engage and excite constituents’ commitment to the University’s and College’s mission, vision, and initiatives.
  • Ability to make well-reasoned, ethically-sound decisions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective operational leadership skills.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The Dean reports to the Provost and serves in an ex officio capacity representing the College on the Faculty Senate, Council of Deans and Chairs, University Council, and other bodies as assigned by the Provost.
  • The expected date of appointment is July 1, 2023. The position is a work-from-campus position requiring local residency.

The Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business has been providing graduate business education to serve adult learners in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex for sixty years. The College is home to AACSB-accredited degree programs at the master's and doctoral levels. It also offers an AACSB accredited undergraduate degree program through the Constantin College of Liberal Arts. A number of the College’s programs have been recognized regionally and nationally.
