The primary mission of Counseling & Psychological Services (C&PS) is to provide services to students and the university community that support and enhance the education of the whole person, as well as nurture a healthy and productive learning-centered campus environment. All C&PS services are provided and designed to promote academic excellence and retention at SDSU. C&PS services are conceived and implemented within the context of a systemic, community-based approach. The SDSU learning community is richly diverse. A crucial part of C&PS's ability to work effectively on campus is each individual staff members' demonstrable respect for diversity and ability to effectively work from a cross-cultural perspective with people from a wide range of backgrounds and value systems.

The Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (CPHD) promotes an environment in which all members of SDSU's campus community can work, learn, and live in an atmosphere free from all forms of bias, harassment, and discrimination through the following activities: educating faculty, staff, and students on SDSU policies and procedures relating to non-discrimination; providing advice and support to faculty, staff, and students on issues of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence; overseeing compliance with federal and state laws including Title IX, Title VII, and FEHA; overseeing compliance with Executive Order 1095, and the Interim CSU Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Exploitation, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Retaliation, including oversight of the formal complaint process; collaborating with other SDSU departments and representatives to provide a holistic approach to resolving discrimination and harassment issues; overseeing SDSU's training programs relating to the prevention of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and unlawful discrimination and harassment.

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, Counseling & Psychological Services (C&PS), the Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate is responsible for leading and coordinating prevention education, outreach, and early intervention efforts related to gender-based violence in a higher education setting. This includes topics of affirmative consent, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and bystander intervention. The Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate will implement evidence-based primary prevention strategies in partnership with campus and community partners, utilizing an intersectional social justice and public health approach. The Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate develops curriculum, content, and materials for the campus community, through the development of presentations, educational seminars, strategic programs, and initiatives aimed to promote affirmative consent, healthy relationships, and decrease incidents of violence. The Violence Prevention Educator and Advocate will additionally serve as a confidential advocate who plays an important role in providing effective and sustained support and resources to students and employees who are sexual violence victims/survivors/complainants.

San Diego State University seeks to create a comprehensive coordinated response that (1) is victim/survivor- centered and trauma-informed; (2) enhances safety (regardless if reported to law enforcement, the campus Title IX Coordinator, or other investigatory bodies); (3) provides confidential services to sexual violence victims/survivors/complainants; (4) holds offenders accountable; (5) includes campus-wide prevention and awareness programs and activities; (6) tracks and assesses data relevant to services and advocacy provided while maintaining confidentiality.
