Event Technician
Personnel Status: PIN/ Nonexempt
Department: Fine and Performing Arts

Responsibilities: Supports the activities and
events in the Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC) and the
Department of Fine and Performing Arts (DFPA). Reports to and works
primarily with the Technical Director and to
the DFPA Chairperson and other FPAC staff to
ensure successful execution of sponsored, academic and departmental
events primarily but not limited to concerts, recitals, musical and
theatrical performances, conferences, screenings, panels,
workshops, exhibitions, presentations and lectures and related
campus events and activities in the FPAC.
Works with DFPA Chairperson, DFPA faculty/staff
and BSU Auxiliary Services/Event and Conferences Services
as well as BSU-wide campus and community groups to coordinate
and determine needs for successful execution of their events held
in the Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC).
Coordinates with DFPA Chairperson and Technical Director
with maintaining an approved and consistent work schedule (physical
and virtual) as well as availability for events. Works with the
Technical Director, DFPA Chairperson and Event and
Conferences Services to determine sound, lighting, and labor needs
for supported events and performs any necessary pre-event support
and post-show strike for events in FPAC. Supervises student or
support event crew (as necessary) in FPAC spaces and in
consultation with the Technical
Director, DFPA Chairperson, DFPA Faculty
and BSU Auxiliary Services/Event and Conferences
Services.
Is present on-site for the support and the successful execution of
events, activities, performances, presentations and acts as a crew
member or technician for these events including troubleshooting and
support of audio-visual presentations, performances, lectures; and
virtual events supporting any technical needs as requested by the
Technical Director and DFPA Chairperson.
Coordinates and works with
the DFPA Chairperson, DFPA Faculty, Staff and
Administration, Technical Director and BSU Conference
Services for the support of scheduled and approved events,
performances and activities in the FPAC both physical
(in-person) and/or virtual (as necessary). Ensures all events
adhere to safety guidelines, COVID-19 guidelines (social
distancing, PPE, etc.), fire codes and helps to support
equipment in the performance spaces of the FPAC.
Remains abreast of training, research of technology, equipment,
virtual/streaming as needed to support events related
to DFPA and FPAC.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in theatrical, musical, live production, performance; theatre arts, events or related field. Minimum two (2) years of professional experience and training in live, theatrical, musical and performance and/or corporate events and support required. Experience reading and fulfilling technical riders for events; troubleshooting sound, video, and lighting systems during events; working as a crew chief preferred; working with Aviom, Strand, and Yamaha LS-9 preferred. Knowledge of event management systems such as Ad-Astra and others. Event planning experience is desirable. Knowledge of Qlab, PowerPoint and other projection, performance and presentation software. Experience in virtual and live streaming of performances, presentations and events is desirable. Advanced knowledge of lighting, sound, audio-visual equipment, presentations, technology and software for a variety of live, theatrical, musical and performance genres; digital sound boards and systems; Knowledge of stage lighting hang and focus, lighting systems; mics, stands, supports, video/image projection systems; screens, display monitors and counterweight rigging systems. Ability to work with height and challenging environments. Theatre stage spaces, including fly loft, catwalks, loading galleries, grid, storage spaces, and office areas. Schedule has variable hours, including evenings and weekends. Must be courteous and collaborative. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Highly physical work, including frequent lifting (up to 25-50 pounds), construction, reaching, bending and twisting. Ability to work with height and challenging environments. Theatre stage spaces, including fly loft, catwalks, loading galleries, grid, storage spaces, and office areas.
SALARY: $33,772 - $43,722 Grade: 7
