Overview
The Associate Director of Finance is responsible for the financial management of UHS; making sure that all UHS financial activities comply with University policies and accounting best practices, and ensuring the optimum utilization of the University funds and resources. This position also performs data modelling and financial analysis that supports UHS leadership planning and strategic decision making.
Responsibilities
Leadership/Management Supervises finance staff.

Conducts annual performance
reviews & provides regular feedback to the finance support
staff.
Is responsible for creating
and maintaining all UHS-specific finance-related policies and
procedures.
Fosters and monitors
compliance with all University policies related to financial
matters.
Develops and implements
continuous quality improvements to UHS financial functions.
Supports University
initiatives in the financial realm, advocates for system
improvements, and serves on relevant committees as needed.
Works with financial
colleagues at peer institutions to develop and monitor benchmarks
as needed.
Collaborates with UHS
colleagues leading central administrative functions such as IT, HR,
and SHP.
Communicates in multiple
formats to internal and external audiences as needed regarding UHS
financial matters.

Administers UHS Budget

Manages UHS $15 million
operational and salary budget, and $600K income budget
Analyzes budget trends and
status, develops forecast, and makes recommendations to UHS senior
leadership regarding budget performance
Utilizes labor accounting
to insure correct salary distributions
Manages, monitors, and
tracks UHS gifts and endowment income.

Ensures compliance with
all University policies associated with inventory control
Maintains control of four
separate inventories housing ~300 items whose FY19 activity
encompassed ~$600K in purchases and ~$550K in withdrawals.

Manages the financial
aspects of human resources function for UHS, including systems and
processes

Oversees the preparation
and submission of all HR forms: those related to hiring,
termination, duty time adjustments, leaves, additional pay,
salary/job change, and positions.
Directs the administration
of the University’s Time & Absence Management System to report
hours worked for hourly-paid/biweekly employees and absences for
exempt and non-exempt staff.
Enters employees’ yearly
salary increases in the Salary Administration Management system
(SAM), as instructed by UHS leadership, ensuring that the approved
increases are distributed in accordance to the Merit Increase
Program.

Prepares reports and
provides data analysis to senior management in support of strategic
financial initiatives and planning.
Designs, develops and
prepares financial models to assist in business planning and
strategic decision making.
Manages and supports new
organizational initiatives and systems that are related to the
budget and finance functions.
Leads, manages and
participates in long term projects that improve financial,
administrative and reporting systems.

Gains and maintains
proficiency in the use of financial, analytical, and other systems
relevant to UHS financial management.
Actively seeks and
participates in training and professional development
opportunities.
Ensures finance staff’s
participation in training and professional development
programs.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
-
Bachelor’s degree in
Business or Accounting or equivalent work experience.
Supervisory
experience.
Five or more years of
previous experience in a similar position, preferably within a
University or health care setting.
Knowledge of sound
accounting principles (GAAP).
Ability to translate
high-level business problems into actionable analysis and apply
financial modeling expertise to derive insights and
recommendations.
Advanced and sophisticated
Excel skills; High level of expertise with desktop computing tools
such as Word and PowerPoint.
Project Management
skills.
Be knowledgeable in
principles and methodologies (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act, Root Cause
Analysis, measurement, data collection, and analysis) needed to
support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities and/or
willing to attend UHS-based Quality Improvement basic training
within first 6-months of hire.

Knowledge of Princeton
University financial reporting systems, policies, and
procedures
Experience with system
applications such as PeopleSoft, Hyperion, and Information
Warehouse
Knowledge of Princeton
University Human Resources policies as they relate to compensation
and benefits
Familiarity with total
work systems (such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement,
Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and Baldrige
National Quality Program); and reviewing and analyzing data.
