Position Description

Bloodworks Northwest (BWNW) and the University of Washington (UW) announces the availability of a physician position specializing in transfusion medicine. The Medical Director will provide coverage of BWNW laboratories including, transfusion services and the Hemostasis and Platelet immunology laboratories. Opportunities to help provide medical direction of the genomics laboratories and the Blood Service department also exist. The Medical Director will provide education and mentoring to trainees rotating to Bloodworks Northwest, and actively assist with rotation structure and content for the UWMC pathology resident rotation at Bloodworks Northwest. Additional teaching includes shared Transfusion medicine didactics at UWMC. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience with hemostasis and hemostasis genomics case sign out. Ability to obtain appointment in the University of Washington, School of Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the level of Assistant Professor Without Tenure, Associate Professor Without Tenure, or full Professor Without Tenure, due to reason of funding, is required.

This appointment may be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to reasons of funding. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This is a full-time, 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30) position and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2023, but is flexible.

Qualifications
Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent) and be board-certified in Transfusion Medicine. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of non-U.S. medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
