Bowdoin College seeks an Assistant Director of Faculty Administration in the Office of the Dean for Academic Affairs at Bowdoin College. The Assistant Director manages key faculty personnel processes and will be trained and mentored in a thorough transition process.

The Assistant Director of Faculty Administration manages key faculty personnel processes in the Office of the Dean for Academic Affairs at Bowdoin College. The person in this position will be part of a supportive team in a fast-paced office dedicated to inclusive excellence, and will work closely with colleagues in Academic Affairs, HR, Payroll, Institutional Research, Analytics, & Consulting, and other offices, as well as faculty and departmental staff across campus. This is a term-limited position currently authorized through October 2025, with the possibility of extension pending administrative approval.
  • Manage recruiting and hiring process for faculty positions, including management of faculty searches in the online recruitment platform (currently PeopleAdmin Recruit), data collection and reporting, and preparation of appointment letters.
  • Administer faculty review, reappointment, tenure, and promotion processes (currently via Interfolio), including advising on related protocols, management of dossiers, data, and records, and preparation of related communications on behalf of the deans.
  • Manage and/or collaborate on additional academic processes and needs, such as sabbatical and leave tracking, annual faculty salary letters, faculty committee elections, faculty position control, etc.
  • As a member of the Dean’s office, collaborate with and provide support to the deans and other office staff.
Salary Range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $64,000 – Maximum $67,000 Education/Skills Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or the equivalent years of education and experience
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion around sensitive personnel matters
  • Ability to adhere to and communicate complex policies and protocols: accuracy and attention to detail essential
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment in execution of duties, and to work both independently and in collaboration with others
  • Ability to consider policies, practices, and actions through a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, customer service and organizational skills
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Professional office experience expected. Higher education administrative experience strongly preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Comfortable with using an array of software / technical solutions or platforms and interested in learning more. Familiarity with process improvement and/or new software implementations a plus. Standard Work Days and Hours
40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year. Regular work schedule between 8:30 – 5:00; exact schedule worked out with supervisor. This is an exempt position requiring time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements. About Bowdoin
