Special Assistant to the Chancellor

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Special Assistant to the Chancellor will report to the Chief of Staff to first provide high level day to day administrative and confidential support for the Chancellor and the functions of the executive office. The Special Assistant provides administrative support for meetings, prepares planning summaries, speech writing , and a variety of written materials for the Chancellor; organizes, anticipates, initiates, plans, administers, coordinates events, information, and communications for the Office of the Chancellor.

Minimum Education/Experience:
A Master’s degree in business administration or related discipline; three to five years of professional experience in higher education, public sector management or campus-related enterprise; detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills; advanced computer/technology skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills, and experience with research, data analysis and fact checking.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to work weekends and extended hours when necessary.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility for limited travel in-state and out-of-state when necessary.
  • Must have administrative experience in a College or University environment.
  • Must possess excellent data and computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Windows suite of products - Word, Excel, PPT;
  • Strong initiative and ability to anticipate, multitask and prioritize without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and under the pressure of tight deadlines and to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to creatively think about and approach problems and assigned projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior administrators, internal and external constituents, development officers, faculty and staff on issues related to the implementation and execution of events.
