Associate Professor

Primary Purpose of Position:
Under the supervision of the Department Chair and the Dean of the College, the Assistant/Associate Professor and Writing Program Administrator will be responsible for teaching three courses per semester, with at least one being first-year writing; curriculum development and revision of ENG 1050, 1110, and 1210; periodically reviewing, selecting, and ordering textbooks for all Composition courses; observing and evaluating faculty teaching first-year writing courses; assessment of the courses within the Writing Program every semester; chairing the First-year Writing Committee.
Minimum Education/Experience:
The successful candidate must have the PhD in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Communication Studies, Literature, or a related field, and a record of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with the rank of assistant or associate professor. The candidate must also possess effective communication, interpersonal, leadership, and administrative skills. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of leadership experience in promoting excellence in teaching, research, service, curriculum development, program review and assessment.

The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and must exhibit the ability to create an engaging teaching, learning, and research environment that promotes creativity, innovation, and the discovery of new knowledge; must display a commitment to student success that includes the recruitment, retention, graduation, and placement of undergraduate and graduate students; must demonstrate a commitment to an open and collegial style of communication and management; must exhibit a strong commitment to North Carolina Central University and the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities’ mission to provide a quality education to a diverse student body.
