The Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions (CHS) and the Center for Health Information and Research (CHiR) are seeking a full-time, 9-month tenure-eligible faculty member at any rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) in Health Services Research.

We seek exceptional candidates with exciting research agendas and teaching experience in health services research and secondary data analysis. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated expertise conducting research in health equity, health disparities, social determinants of health, population health, health policy, indigenous health, climate change, behavioral health, or precision health. Founded in 2012, the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University is the only health college of its kind — which is what you would expect from the most innovative university in the nation. CHS brings together researchers, faculty, students and community partners from a variety of disciplines to translate scientific research and discovery into practical solutions that make a difference. Our undergraduate and graduate students gain the knowledge and insight necessary to help solve our greatest health challenges — improving the health care system, increasing access to care and enhancing the health of individuals and populations.

The Center for Health Information and Research (CHiR) is a dynamic multidisciplinary Center in the College. We serve as a resource, tool, and collaborator for individuals and organizations that need comprehensive health care information and data analytics for public, private and research uses. CHiR works with a wealth of data relevant to the health and access to care in Arizona and around the nation. For example, CHiR maintains access to insurance claims from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (Arizona’s Medicaid agency), which can inform a wide range of health services research questions. We are a team of faculty, staff, and students armed with the best tools to use data to ask and answer timely questions in health.

The College of Health Solutions has graduate degrees (MS, PhD) in Population Health, Health Care Delivery and Biomedical Informatics with doctoral tracks in Health Equity, Complex Adaptive Systems, Urban Environments and a new PhD track expected in Health Services Research. CHS is seeking to hire faculty to teach new courses in both empirical research methods as well as health services research areas, including health policy, health economics, and program evaluation.

Responsibilities for this position include developing and maintaining a successful research program, teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses in related to health services research, mentoring students and junior faculty, and providing service to the program and university as well as to the community and profession. The ideal candidate will present promise of a successful research trajectory, including peer-reviewed publications commensurate with the relevant rank, potential for extramural funding, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and mentoring.

About the College of Health Solutions

The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. Through teaching, academic programs, service and research, faculty at the College of Health Solutions address one or more of our three major areas of focus: 1) The systems of health care and the health needs of populations; 2) Health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan; 3) Personalized interventions through precision health. Across these areas, we work to address complex and difficult health problems that require transformative collaboration, translational research and innovation. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities.

Our research programs encompass basic science, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, our faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. We are highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented. Our innovative organizational structure includes translational teams that move science from labs into communities with evidence-based interventions that make a difference, as well as affinity networks where teams of people work together to improve methodologies and processes. All of our programs, in and out of the classroom, are designed with the goal of improving the health of people and communities.

Current training programs by areas of study include biomedical informatics, biomedical diagnostics, health care systems, health sciences & medical studies, movement sciences, nutrition, population health, the science of healthcare delivery, and speech and hearing sciences. Our programs are offered at the ASU Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

• Doctorate or terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DrPH, ScD) in a field relevant to health services research (e.g., health economics, sociology, systems science, demography, dissemination and implementation, epidemiology, medicine)
• Existing research agenda that incorporates administrative (e.g., insurance claims/encounter), electronic health record data or workforce data
• Expertise in analyzing large secondary data sets using cutting-edge tools and techniques
• Evidence of a strong potential to obtain or evidence of a successful history of obtaining extramural funding to support a robust research portfolio commensurate with the relevant rank
• Potential for high impact research
• Evidence of peer-reviewed publications commensurate with the relevant rank
• Evidence of strong potential to teach or evidence of successful teaching at the university level related to the fields of health services research
• Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with diverse students, colleagues, community partners, and staff in a multicultural environment.

Desired Qualifications

• Expertise in Medicaid policy analysis or state policy research
• Experience or expertise in data visualization techniques and tools
• A research agenda in health equity, health disparities, social determinants of health, population health, indigenous health, climate change, behavioral health, or precision health
• Experience with state-funded research contracts
• Experience conducting health care workforce analyses
• Background, knowledge, and/or research that could be conducted or relevant to the needs of Arizona's diverse populations
• Experience in developing and maintaining community partnerships and inter-professional or team-based collaborations
• Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses (including online courses) at the University level
• Previous experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students
• Evidence of participation in translational, trans-disciplinary, and team science initiatives relevant to CHS research domains
• Evidence of active involvement in university, community, and/or professional service commensurate with the relevant rank
