Job Description:
The Department of Criminal Justice at Weber State University is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to begin July 1, 2023.

Job Duties:


Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or advanced ABD in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (J.D. only applicants will not be accepted). Evidence of teaching effectiveness and research ability is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to someone with a demonstrated history of effective teaching in higher education, a record of scholarship and/or a promising research agenda, and a commitment to service. Although all areas of specialization will be considered, and we encourage candidates who have a willingness to develop new courses within their specialization, we are especially solicitous of candidates with research and scholarship in the areas of corrections, law enforcement, or the courts. Preference will be given to those capable of teaching a wide range of criminal justice courses from a systemic perspective.

Founded in 1889, WSU is a diverse learning community with seven colleges that serve more than 27,000 students in more than 225 academic programs. The main campus of Weber State University is beautifully situated at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, Utah, just 35 miles north of Salt Lake City. Ogden is within reasonable driving distance of nine major ski resorts and a half dozen national parks.

The Department offers undergraduate and master degrees in Criminal Justice. Courses may be taught on the Ogden main campus or other satellite campuses and are offered during daytime and evening hours. Faculty in the department teach a 4-4 load in a variety of modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online), including in our fully online Master of Criminal Justice Program. We are seeking a faculty member who is able to teach courses in our curriculum. The Department has 9 faculty members (8 tenure-track and 1 contract faculty) and is housed under the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Physical Requirements of this position: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing only occasionally if ever.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
