CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR

Scope of Job:
Responsible for evaluating and training clinical staff for clinical competency, clinical education needs, incorporating clinical programs, supporting the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) programs, quality measures and patient safety.

Description of Duties:
  • Participates and provides clinical orientation /onboarding and education of baseline clinical skill level and competency of clinical workforce.
  • Plans, creates and implements mandatory/non-mandatory education for clinical staff. May provide specialty training as needed/required.
  • Supports management/leadership team for assurance of clinical workplace competency.
  • Responsible for helping employees develop into their roles and integrates the values and behaviors expected of those who fulfill those roles.
  • Analyzes assessment and evaluation data to improve professional development activities.
  • Supports clinical staff to meet patient care and quality needs thru efficient education services and resources.
  • Responsible for formulating program outcomes and designing course curriculums that are evidence-based and reflect current health care trends preparing learners to function effectively within the health care environment.
  • Assists clinical staff in utilization of resources for patient care and provides service coordination and re-education when needed.
  • Educates clinical staff in patient quality and safety measures and ensues measures are met according to set standards and levels. Practices and promotes quality improvement activities.
  • Assesses and participates with all departments and clinical sites to identify and fulfill clinical training needs.
  • Serves as resource to management and staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.
  • Adheres and communicates to internal controls established for assigned areas.
  • Keeps and maintains records of all staff training and current licensure/certification. Provides data to leadership as required.
  • Prepares management reports as needed.
  • May provide clinical patient care as needed/assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Registered Nurse (RN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from an accredited university or Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Preferred Education:
None.

Licenses/Certifications:
Current State of Texas Licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse with variety of nursing experience and clinical skills or 5 years of nursing experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Preferred Experience:
Bilingual (Spanish/English), Basic Life Science instructor. Experience with nursing education and evaluation.

Equipment:
Use of standard office/clinical equipment. Electronic medical records systems.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Clinic Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
