The Division of Liberal Arts at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) invited applications for one full-time undergraduate faculty position beginning on August 1, 2023. We are looking for a colleague with expertise and teaching experience in American studies and gender studies.

The faculty member will engage in innovative interdisciplinary pedagogy related to higher education, teaching in an arts-oriented/liberal arts environment including teaching courses within our core curriculum. They will undertake responsibilities typical of such a position in an academic setting, including participating in academic advising; evaluating students on a regular basis; submitting grades; attending faculty meetings, retreats and other meetings deemed necessary by the Dean; attending to all duties associated with a full-time faculty appointment as described in the UNCSA Faculty Manual; teaching assigned courses; holding office hours; participating in UNCSA and DLA committees as needed; engaging in the development of new and existing programs; participating in other work-related duties assigned by the Dean.

The qualified candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Gender and Sexuality Studies or in a related field such as American Studies, Liberal Arts Studies, Rhetoric, Ethnic and Cultural Studies, or Comparative Literature with a graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Successful candidates will have 1-2 years of teaching experience in postsecondary settings.

Successful candidates will have a record of creative, scholarly, or professional achievement; an ability to think across disciplines; excellent interpersonal skills; a commitment to divisional and institutional service; an ability to design courses relevant to students of the fine and performing arts and will have contributed to equitable, diverse, inclusive, and safe environments in higher education.

UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
