Position Summary

The Elementary Education & Literacy Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin in August 2023. The ideal candidate would be an elementary education generalist who holds an anti-oppressive educational lens. The University and the School of Education ( SOE ) are particularly interested in applicants who have the philosophical and practical intention to incorporate and purposefully utilize the principles of equity and inclusion and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for marginalized groups.

This position requires teaching the equivalent of 9 semester hours of courses (day, evening, and/or weekend classes) each semester with potential for negotiation to 6 semester hours of courses each semester. The primary responsibility for teaching courses is in the Elementary Education undergraduate or graduate programs. These courses will cover a range of topics including instruction and assessment, social studies methods, and/or multicultural education. Other responsibilities include supervision of residents, student teachers, and/or field students as well as advising students within our Elementary Education programs.

MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups. Our Fall 2021 student population consists of over 57% first-generation students and over 50% students of color. We are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in downtown Denver. As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today’s college students. The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals students.

We create an equitable learning and working environment with individuals who consistently demonstrate commitment to equity and inclusion. We value the diverse identities and perspectives of our students, faculty, and staff and recognize that in order to achieve a just and equitable society, diversity must go beyond simple representation. It requires critical inquiry and dialogue and a commitment to action. We strive to provide a culture of belonging where all community members feel valued to achieve personal and professional success.
