Assistant Professor - Computing and Software Systems

The Computing and Software Systems (CSS) Division of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks to fill multiple positions for Lecturer Part-Time faculty in the Division. A commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level is essential, as is a commitment to support and enhance learning for diverse populations. We are seeking multiple candidates to join our faculty on a part-time basis (50% - 100%) for a 9-month service period with opportunities to teach during the summer. Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion eligible. Appointments in these positions may be for multiple years (1-5 years). Reappointments are contingent upon instructional needs, performance, and funding. The start date is December 16, 2022. The position has an expectation of teaching between five and eight courses in the three quarters of the regular academic year with teaching assignments focused on courses offered by CSS. Critical topics for these courses include but are not limited to augmented and virtual reality, cloud computing, computational biology, computer graphics, computer education, computer ethics, cybersecurity, data mining, hardware and operating systems, high-performance computing, human factors in computing, parallel and distributed computing, programming, social computing, software engineering, technical writing, and wireless networks.

The successful candidates will be dynamic scholars and educators, whose work bridges theory and practice of computer science and software engineering. The successful candidate will use lecture modalities and active learning teaching techniques, or will have the willingness to learn alternative teaching modalities that ensure the best results. The successful candidate will enjoy working independently yet interested in sharing ideas collaboratively. The ideal candidate will have previous college-level teaching and relevant industry experience. PhD and MS degrees are desirable, though may be substituted by appropriate pedagogical and work experience.

The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus collocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, with a new 77,000 square-foot STEM building in collaboration with Cascadia College opening in Fall 2023.

Qualifications
PhD or MS degree or foreign equivalent is desirable, though degree may be substituted by appropriate pedagogical and work experience
Demonstrated ability to teach a wide variety of CSS courses
Demonstrated potential to support the UW Bothell mission and STEM core values, including the values of diversity and equal opportunity
