The Position : The Associate Vice President for University Advancement is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the fundraising team under University Advancement division. Specific responsibilities include building a principal giving program with designated assigned prospects and overseeing the activities related to principal giving and major gifts. These responsibilities include Presidential-level activities, events, stewardship, and external engagement with alumni and friends of the university, and oversight of principal giving as it relates to institutional priorities. The Associate Vice President will manage and oversee a team of fundraising professionals, providing leadership and direction to achieve fundraising goals, including developing department goals and objectives, evaluating, and streamlining processes to ensure efficiency and eliminate redundancy. The incumbent will manage a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship phases; collaborate with the prospect research initiatives to prioritize the prospects that are reviewed as they pertain to leadership giving within the context of university priorities. The incumbent will be a member of the senior leadership team of University Advancement and assist the Vice President for University Advancement to foster a culture of high achievement and accountability, integrate a philosophy of collaboration, and promote a culture of philanthropy across the campus.

Required Qualifications & Experience : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and ten (10) years of progressively responsible fundraising, alumni engagement, and management experience in advancement. Demonstrated success in closing principal and major gifts. The incumbent must have demonstrated successful experience working with internal and external constituents, boards, and foundations. Successful experience in leading, managing, and evaluating personnel and managing budgets. The incumbent must have knowledge and experience in implementing a principal and major giving program and experience in strategically setting goals and objectives; best practices for principal and major gift fundraising, such as standards related to donors and code of ethics, and gift counting; understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations. The incumbent must possess personal integrity, sound work ethics, effective communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, and demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts. The incumbent must have the ability to build strong collaborative relationships with the campus community. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications : Working knowledge and previous experience with estate/planned gifts or a planned giving program. Experience with a capital campaign. Master’s or doctoral degree.

Compensation : Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $6,250 - $20,063/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment : The Administrator III appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
