The College of New Jersey is seeking an energetic and innovative Director of Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS). Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students, the Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall administration of Counseling and Prevention Services while balancing its core functions of clinical service, educational outreach, and training to the campus community.

The Director is also responsible for day-to-day operations, budgeting and resource management, assessment, continuous improvement, and ensuring that compliance and adherence to all regulatory and professional standards are consistently met. The Director will provide leadership and oversight to the department, composed of eight licensed
clinicians, an office assistant, and graduate interns. In addition, the Director provides direct oversight and support for the Community Counseling Collaborative (a program designed to bring licensed mental health providers on campus and provide low-cost, longer-term mental health care to our students) and the newly established relationship with Virtual Care for 24/7 teletherapy and psychiatric services. Additionally, the Director will provide support and training for TCNJ Contact, a student-led crisis hotline. Counseling and Prevention Services provides psychological services including, individual and group therapy, connection to virtual psychiatric consultation as well as outreach and educational programs to assist students with a range of health and wellbeing concerns that may interfere with the ability to be successful at the College.

Counseling and Prevention Services is within the Dean of Students Portfolio in the Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs provides meaningful programs and services that enhance the overall educational experience for students. Student Affairs strives to provide state-of-the-art environments that encourage academic, social, emotional, and physical success. The Student Affairs
Division consists of the Dean of Students Office, Student Conduct, Fraternity & Sorority Programs, Off-Campus Student Life, Student Activities, Career & Leadership, the Brower Student Center, Students of Concern, Wellness Programs, Alcohol and Other Drug Education, Anti-Violence Initiatives, Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Health Services, Residential Education &
Housing, Dining Services, and Athletics and Recreation - including varsity sports, club sports, intramurals, aquatics, fitness center and general recreation. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to working effectively from a multicultural orientation with our diverse college population and be proficient at providing campus outreach presentations and consultation to students, parents, faculty, and university personnel on issues related to student mental health.

Responsibilities:
● Lead the development and revision of policies and procedures in adherence to federal, state, and professional associations guidelines and standards
● Manage the departmental budget
● Oversees the coordination, consultation, and guidance for crisis/liaison services, including intervention and postvention services for emergencies and highly acute situations.
● Oversee the CAPS' components of TCNJ's electronic health record system (Medicat), including maintaining the accurate collection of records and statistics to provide information for decision-making and feedback to staff and college partners
● Implements new technologies to improve and expand service delivery and evaluation
● Ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence-based, culturally competent services to students
● Ensure efficient, equitable, and quality delivery of all clinical services, including assessment, individual and group counseling, referral, consultation, and crisis intervention.
● Foster strong professional relationships with local mental health providers for referral and networking.
● Facilitate collaboration between Counseling and Prevention Services and other offices and departments across campus in order to strengthen the development and delivery of mental health services and prevention initiatives
● Recruit, select, train and supervise clinicians, professional staff and graduate students in clinical psychology
● Serve as a key member of the Behavior Intervention Team which evaluates the level of risk in given situations, recommends appropriate interventions, and monitors students who represent a potential threat to self or others
● Provide campus wide training on current student mental health and wellness issues to faculty, staff and student constituencies.

Qualifications:
● Terminal degree in clinical or counseling psychology, or related field
● Must be licensed in appropriate field in New Jersey, or license eligible
● 7 years of progressively responsible professional and administrative experience developing and delivering programs and clinical services
● Prior experience, in particular leadership experience, in a college or university counseling center is preferred
● Demonstrated commitment and ability to advance diversity and inclusion, and work with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds
● Demonstrated knowledge of: student development theory in a mental health context; current counseling/psychotherapy practices and methods; effective strategies for responding to crisis situations, and effective mental health promotion strategies
● Ability to utilize and/or develop appropriate instruments to determine efficacy of services, progress in attainment of goals, and student learning outcomes
● Ability to motivate and lead a diverse staff in the accomplishment of goals
● Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
● Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of college health, including supporting integrated clinical care with Student Health Services (medical services) to advance the holistic health and well being of students
