Assistant Director of Facilities

Department: Facilities - Wellesley

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Assistant Director of Facilities provides support in the execution of assigned construction projects and administrative oversight of the operations of all college facilities.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Research the purchase of new/replacement equipment and assess the value of contract services and supplies;
  • Manage small construction projects;
  • Act as a liaison to college departments, faculty & staff;
  • Attend project meetings and weekly building inspections;
  • Assist in developing and managing colleges’ 5-year capital improvement plan;
  • Maintain updated records of facilities improvements and maintenance to include drawings and warranties;
  • Assist the Director of Facilities in implementing a maintenance program addressing routine, preventative, planned, and emergency maintenance for school buildings, repairs, and cleaning of school buildings;
  • Assist in the preparation of bid/quote documents and the review of bids from vendors for external services and capital projects;
  • Prepare reports on a regular basis;
  • Use a computerized maintenance management system to input, track, schedule, and verify college-wide work requests, preventative maintenance, and emergency needs;
  • Assist in developing operating and capital budgets;
  • Oversee the work of Facilities contractual services for all campuses, such as cleaning, plowing, preventive maintenance, etc.;
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, operating, environmental and safety procedures, and the College's policies and procedures;
  • Responsible for environmental health and safety;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of projects; and
  • Help to coordinate and manage project tasks and deliverables.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; experience and training may be substituted for some of the educational requirements;
  • Four to six years of administrative experience in the field of Engineering, Facilities, or Construction Management;
  • Experience overseeing departmental and Capital budgets;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, including Excel;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented; and,
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of MEP systems as well as the ability to react quickly to changing conditions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to maintain a successful working relationship with other divisions of the college and with students.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $70,000.00 - 80,000.00 Annual Salary
