JOB SUMMARY

The Executive Director of Faculty Development in UConn’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) provides leadership for faculty development strategies designed to improve teaching effectiveness and elevate student learning outcomes. The incumbent will promote equity-minded and inclusive teaching and learning practices, lead efforts to recognize and celebrate teaching excellence, and facilitate impactful evidence-based and research-informed programming. The Executive Director provides direction for a team of faculty development professionals and coordination for CETL faculty affiliates. This position requires extensive interaction and collaboration with CETL staff and UConn faculty, teaching assistants, department heads, and senior academic leaders. The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice Provost in CETL.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and collaborates with key University stakeholders to identify and promote research-informed best practices surrounding equity-minded and inclusive teaching and the evaluation of teaching.
  • Leads CETL’s efforts to enhance faculty and student success through improvements in UConn’s teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Develops and implements a University-wide comprehensive vision for evidence-based programming that supports development of teaching effectiveness for faculty and teaching assistants.  
  • Leads and coordinates CETL staff in the planning, creation, delivery, and assessment of CETL faculty development programs.
  • Leads and coordinates CETL staff in providing faculty development services including teaching observations and teaching enhancement plans.
  • Presents and disseminates information on research-informed best practices in teaching and learning to a wide variety of audiences including faculty, department heads, associate deans, deans, and the University Senate.
  • Develops CETL’s overall strategy to recognize, celebrate, and amplify teaching success and excellence including annual teaching awards.
  • Collaborates closely with the senior academic leaders in the Provost’s Office, UConn Schools and Colleges, UConn’s Regional Campuses, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the CETL AVP, Director of UConn Online, the Executive Director of Learning Initiatives and Program Assessment, and other key stakeholders to identify and develop key initiatives and seamless faculty support interfaces that promote more effective teaching and learning outcomes and contribute to faculty and student success.
  • Consults with faculty on aspects of grants related to teaching plans and broader impact strategies.
  • Provides supervision and direction to the Director of Faculty Outreach and Engagement, Director of Teaching and Learning Assessment, Associate Director of Faculty Development, and the Administrative Assistant for Faculty Development.
  • Develops vision and provides coordination for CETL faculty affiliates.
  • Provides vision and strategic direction for the CETL web page and social media campaigns.
  • Promotes the scholarship of teaching and learning, and pursuit of grants and external funding opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctoral degree
  • At least five years of demonstrated experience providing pedagogical support or serving in a faculty development role in higher education
  • Substantial experience developing and teaching college level courses
  • Experience working in collaborative team environments in higher education
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced or specialized pedagogical training
  • Demonstrated experience in a faculty development role that spans academic disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty and students with diverse national and cultural backgrounds
  • Previous senior level experience in a strategic role in a university teaching and learning center

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full time position. Salary for this position is $110,000 to $125,000 commensurate with experience.
