Assistant/Associate Professor of Sociology

 

Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Behavioral Sciences invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Sociology, with possible conversion to a remote Instructor position.

 

 

 

SUMMARYSoutheastern Oklahoma State University is a regional university located approximately 1 hour north of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.  The undergraduate population consists primarily of students from southeastern Oklahoma and north Texas with many being first-generation college students.  The individual selected to fill the position will be student-oriented and will teach two sections of Principles of Sociology each semester along with two upper division electives each semester, including Introduction to Social Research during the spring semester. 

 

 

If the position is converted to a fully remote non-tenure track instructor, the teaching load will increase to five courses per semester (Fall and Spring) rather than four.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

 

Remain in compliance with all Southeastern policies and procedures in three main areas:

 

 

 

Teaching

 

  • Teach all courses as assigned and in accordance with departmental and university guidelines Teach primarily in a 7-week online format with one or possibly two face-to-face courses each semester Create and/or maintain course syllabi in accordance with departmental and university guidelines Maintain well-organized, standardized Canvas platform for all courses Complete Quality Matters (QM) Online Instruction Training Modules Maintain 10 regular posted on-campus/virtual office hours per week

Service

 

  • Participate in professional, program, departmental, school, and university committees Advise undergraduate Sociology majors and minors Meet with students and colleagues using Zoom technology when necessary Communicate regularly with the Sociology Program Coordinator and Department Chair

 

 

Research

 

  • Maintain a modest research agenda with the understanding that effective teaching is the highest priority Participate in research activities which lead to publications and/or presentations within the field of Sociology

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

 

REQUIRED:   Ph.D. in Sociology. Will consider ABD with completion of dissertation by May 2023.

 

 

 

PREFERRED

 

  • Experience teaching undergraduate students Experience using Canvas Collegiality, effective interpersonal skills, and a desire to work with undergraduate students

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The start date is August 1, 2023. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2022 and continue until filled.
