Chapman University invites applications for the position of tenured Associate or Full Professor of Physical Therapy, Tenured, Fall 2023 in Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. We seek an outstanding movement scientist with a strong record in research and physical therapy education.

Continually accredited since 1928, the Department of Physical Therapy has a rich tradition as one of the oldest physical therapy programs in the United States. The program graduates two cohorts of forty students each year. Facilities within the Department of Physical Therapy feature advanced motion analysis and Motek/GRAIL laboratories and include a comprehensive range of biomechanical, neurophysiological, and cardiovascular research tools.

The Department of Physical Therapy is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The campus is also the home of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences (Brain Institute), offering additional outstanding facilities for neurophysiological and neuromodulation research. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device, and biopharmaceutical companies. Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a terminal academic doctorate (Ph.D. D.Sc., Ed. D or equivalent) in a clinically-relevant movement science such as biomechanics, neuroscience, kinesiology, or other human movement research field. Candidates who hold current licensure as a physical therapist (or eligibility for licensure in California) and have experience in teaching in musculoskeletal/orthopedic content areas are highly desirable for this position.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who are already at the tenured Associate or Professor level with established research programs and a history of extramural grant funding. Current physical therapy faculty research at Chapman examines biomechanical and neurological aspects of typical/atypical movement and motor control with focus on gait, balance, postural control, upper extremity function, and motor learning. Strong candidates will have a research agenda that is aligned with current Departmental research and/or be interested in developing new translational partnerships to foster community health and wellness across the lifespan.

Responsibilities

Sustain a productive line of research and maintain/secure extramural funding.

Strengthen the scholarly productivity of the Department by mentoring tenure-track faculty and by facilitating inter-professional collaboration within and beyond the University.

Work cooperatively and effectively with physical therapy faculty and Chapman collaborators in the fields of orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, applied neuroscience, health psychology, or other areas to foster collaborative research and enhance the student learning experience.

Teach in area(s) of expertise and curricular need in the DPT program and assist with coordination of part-time lecturers/teaching lab assistants as applicable. Teaching load is negotiable based on research excellence and extramural funding. Candidates are expected to mentor physical therapy students.

Candidates with combined PhD and PT credentials will be expected to maintain clinical licensure.

Perform academic and professional service at a level commensurate with rank.

This position is subject to final budget approval. The salary range for this Associate or Full Professor position is $115,000-$125,000.

Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. A competitive start-up package will be provided based on the rank and funding status of the applicant.
