Faculty - Bachelor of Social Work: Assistant or Associate Professor

Summary:
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University invites qualified individuals to apply for two (2) tenure-track positions as assistant/associate professors in the Bachelor of Social Work Program starting in August 2023.

The BSW faculty are committed to the growth and advancement of the program and look forward to collaborating with the appointees to continue developing curriculum, learning activities, resources, and policies that support student development of social work knowledge, skills, and values. The appointees' workload expectations will be teaching (80%), research (10%), and institutional service (10%). These positions carry a teaching load of 24 credit hours or equivalent per academic year, typically 12 credits per semester (4/4).

The appointees are expected to utilize pedagogical methods that emphasize student engagement, identify measurable course objectives, and evaluate learning by means of written assignments, oral presentations, and/or examinations. The appointees will hold regular office hours. The appointees will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the BSW Program, and Utah Valley University. Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in social work (PhD, DSW) or related discipline, Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE accredited program, and two years of post-master’s social work degree practice experience in social work. OR Master of Social Work from a CSWE accredited program (MSW) and clinical licensure (LCSW).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
  • Subject matter across the BSW curriculum
  • Canvas or other Learning Management System
  • Anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in social work education



Skills:
  • Engage, assess, intervene with, and evaluate practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, or communities at a generalist social work level.
  • Maintain an engaging, motivating, and positive classroom environment.
  • Explain difficult curricular concepts
  • Communicate effectively orally and in written communication with faculty, staff, students, and community partners of diverse backgrounds.

Abilities:
  • Excellent time management and organization.
  • Reflect on and improve teaching.
  • Ability to design and organize both in-person and online course content.
  • Ability to develop assessment measures to evaluate students’ realization of course outcomes and competencies



Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching at the university level, preferably in a social work program, a BSW degree, and the ability to teach research will be considered preferred qualifications for this position.



Physical Requirements:
Ability to use computers. Physical ability to teach in a classroom setting. Ability to see, hear, talk, stand, sit, walk and fine hand manipulation. Other standard physical abilities for full-time faculty positions.
