Position Summary
Assistant Director
Student Support Services (SSS)
Full-Time / Grant Funded

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works in collaboration with the Director, conducts assessments for program participants to determine individual needs and appropriate services
  • Assists in supervising project programming, research experiences, budget management, recruitment initiatives and social media presence for TRIO Programs
  • Provides support to program participants regarding graduate school admissions, and financial aid
  • Provides academic advising as well as college, career, financial aid, financial literacy, and scholarship activities for TRIO eligible participants
  • Assists in developing and implementing new participant orientations for TRIO
  • Supports establishing and maintaining collaborative efforts both on and off campus to identify scholarship/job shadowing/internship opportunities for TRIO participants
  • Provides support for the completion and submission of Annual Performance Reports for TRIO Programs
  • Assists with overall office management and day-to-day responsibilities
  • Designs and implements activities and services designed to increase retention and graduation rates of current and eligible program participants
  • Coordinates collaborative student-driven activities between TRIO Programs including conferences and graduate school visits
  • Maintains a student caseload and provides program participants with one-on-one personal, academic, and financial aid counseling
  • Administers the Supplemental Grant Aid to program participants in addition to working collaboratively with Academic Support Centers to identify possible funding support for TRIO participants
  • Provides direct supervision to the TRIO Intake Specialist
  • Serves on committees as assigned or supported by the program director


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated experience working with and advising at-risk students
  • Demonstrated experience working with disadvantaged and/or underrepresented students on a college campus or in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience as a supervisor
  • Demonstrated experience working with financial aid and financial assistance processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience with data collection, management, and report generation
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and setting priorities
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
