The Deku Lab focuses on developing materials, devices, and therapeutic approaches for neural interfacing, but with a focus that is grounded in science and driven by the vision of developing treatments for specific unmet clinical needs. Our group engineers thin-film materials and develop novel fabrication methods for creating chronically reliable neural interfaces and study their integration into the nervous system, including the brain and peripheral nerves.
Position Summary

A Laboratory Manager in the Deku at the University of Oregon requires an individual who is self-motivated and has excellent organizational, managerial, and communication skills to oversee research and compliance aspects of the lab on a daily basis and to participate in a variety of new and ongoing research in the lab. This position works closely with PI Deku to design, implement, and supervise lab research, lab administration, and safety protocols.

The position reports to Assistant Professor Felix Deku.
Minimum Requirements

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Neuroengineering, Bioengineering, Biology, or BA, MA in Business Administration.
  • Relevant experience in a research environment (including Ph.D. time.)

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Experience in a regulated, research environment.
  • Strong team ethic.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication.
    Preferred Qualifications

  • More than two years as a manager or project team leader in a research environment.
  • More than one year engaged in research regulated by IACUC and AALAC.
  • Prior experience in biomaterials and/or fabrication or medical device companies.
  • Prior experience in investor outreach, marketing, or sales.
