We are seeking a Fitness Coordinator at the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins University.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness to oversee comprehensive student-oriented fitness offerings on the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins University.
  • Manage the Center’s fitness areas, including the cardio fitness room, weight room, heavy room, functional training area, informal stretch areas, Jungle Gym, F45 franchise, cycling studio, and three multi-purpose studios through security, inventory, organization, and cleaning.
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of open fitness spaces via policies, staffing, and direction in order to ensure safety, comfort, cleanliness, inclusion and accessibility for all Rec patrons.
  • Direct the Facility Attendant and Monitor (FAM) student staff by hiring, on-boarding, and evaluating the team and facilitating semesterly trainings and leadership & development opportunities.
  • Take lead in research, specification, purchasing, inventory, layout and organization of all fitness equipment for recreational facilities.
  • Complete hiring documentation and weekly payroll for all fitness staff.
  • Assist in operation of Group Exercise classes, Personal Training services, and informal fitness opportunities taking place within and associated with the newly expanded Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation & Well-Being, taking lead in absence of Assistant Director.
  • Instruct a minimum of two fitness classes or small group training sessions per week.
  • Collaborate with the university community on intersectional health and/or student experience areas such as the Office of Well-Being, Peer Educators (Peeps), and various campus offices/groups on collaborative programming such as New Student Orientation, Hop In, and FLI and advise relevant student groups such as the Powerlifting Club
  • Serve on university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed.
  • Assist in establishing short and long-term goals for the Department of Athletics & Recreation.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with department colleagues, as well as other partners across campus.
  • Proactively communicate and build relationships with patrons of the Center.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary and appropriate for the position as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.

Key Relationships

  • The Fitness Coordinator is directly supervised by the Assistant Director – Fitness.
  • This position has significant interactions with faculty and staff, students, alumni, and other outside constituencies.

Physical Effort/Environment

  • General office, recreation facility, and campus environment.
  • Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary.
  • Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and occasional lifting is required.
  • Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required.
  • The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
  • Operates in recreation facility.
  • General open office and campus environment.
  • Position involves sitting, movement, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations.
  • Early morning/evening/weekend work is required.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Masters in exercise science or related field preferred.
  • Two years professional experience managing a collegiate recreational fitness program preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

Required

  • Nationally accredited personal training certification.
  • Nationally accredited certification in group fitness instruction.
  • *ONE of the above may be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid certification.


Preferred

  • Knowledge or experience within the F45 franchise.
  • Specialty fitness certifications including but not limited to:
  • Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Boxing, Aerobics, TRX, Barre etc.
  • Additional licenses such as CSCS, massage, meditation, nutrition, etc. are also welcomed.
