Job Summary

Drexel University Libraries (DUL) is seeking a highly motivated and innovative librarian with expertise in any of the theoretical, applied, physical or life sciences to advance the Libraries’ vision for information and related literacies as foundational for the development of student self-directed learning and critical thinking. Working collaboratively in the Libraries’ matrixed organizational structure, the Librarian will contribute functional expertise to the Information Assistance program and discipline expertise to the Libraries’ Sciences team.

The Librarian supports the assessment and quality improvement of information assistance delivery and is actively engaged in providing personal guidance to build student metaliteracy skills. The Librarian also provides discipline-related knowledge of information resources and tools, pedagogy and research; as well as customized consultations and other services to support the teaching and learning needs of faculty, staff and students working in STEM fields. The Librarian offers client-customized consultation services, including help with course-related projects and strategies for finding and evaluating authoritative information.

The Libraries operates as a cost-effective, evidence-based, customer-centered organization with a commitment to continuous quality improvement and a supportive culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness. Reporting to the Manager, Information Assistance, the Librarian may represent the Libraries in University activities and initiatives and is expected to contribute to the library and information profession through service, presentation, or publication activities. Librarians succeed in the Libraries’ matrixed organizational structure through recognizing opportunities and actively contributing to ongoing program planning, implementation, assessment and reporting of appropriate metrics.

Essential Functions
  • Inspire self-directed learning and critical thinking by providing personal guidance and Inspire self-directed learning and critical thinking by providing personal guidance and client-customized consultation in-person and via chat, phone, email, and events.
  • Collaborate with other librarians, faculty, staff, and students to help integrate knowledge. of metaliteracies, information resources, and information-seeking behaviors into Drexel‘s curriculum.
  • Develop resources that guide and assist clients to find, access, evaluate, and use information effectively.
  • Apply disciplinary knowledge and expertise in supporting selection decisions for scholarly information resources.
  • Contribute to the Libraries’ communication and marketing program and proactively, contribute to strengthening the Libraries’ culture of diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent, ALA-accredited Library & Information Studies.
  • 1 year professional work experience
  • Undergraduate degree, graduate coursework, and/or professional experience in any of the theoretical, applied, physical or life sciences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of science information resources, tools, and scholarly trends
  • Demonstrated knowledge of science pedagogy and current instructional techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong customer service orientation and commitment to inclusiveness of diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Evidence of self-motivation to address new challenges, ability to solve problems with minimal supervision and commitment to learn new knowledge and skills
  • Familiar with current and emerging technologies and trends in academic libraries
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; able to lead as well as execute and take constructive input from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and welcoming work environment in both physical and cyber spaces
Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Computer Science or Data Science
