CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES CHANCELLOR

The Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges announces its search for the next Chancellor. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead bold transformation in higher education, impact the lives of millions of students and their communities, and continue the realization of the Vision for Success's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility that is serving as a model to other systems in California and nationally. This position calls for experience and education demonstrating the ability and stature to lead the nation's largest system of higher education with passion and integrity, undeterred by fiscal, societal, and political swings which challenge community colleges. Individuals who are committed to changing individuals' lives through education and to strengthening the state's economy are encouraged to pursue this exciting opportunity. Applications and nominations for the position of California Community Colleges Chancellor are cordially invited.

With enrollments of approximately 1.8 million students at 116 colleges, the California Community Colleges is the largest system of higher education in the country. The system represents more than 10% of all U.S. community colleges, and 20% of the nation's community college enrollments. There are 73 community college districts overseen by local governing boards; a district may govern from one to nine colleges. Colleges range in size from 2,000 to more than 36,000 students. The annual revenue-funding for the California Community Colleges is $14 billion.

The Chancellor is appointed by the Board of Governors and has statutory authority to lead the administrative agency responsible for executing community college policies and regulations through guidance, professional development, advocacy, innovation, budget and finance, and external partnerships. The Chancellor is supported by a cabinet with responsibility over college facilities and finance, educational services, digital innovation, institutional effectiveness, workforce and economic development, government relations, communications and marketing, internal operations, and legal counsel. The Chancellor's Office has approximately 180 employees, who are within the state's civil service.
