Responsibilities:

  • Teach in the core areas of the curriculum as well as in the “Event Management and Tourism” areas at the university level. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses that would include but are not limited to: festivals and events management; foundations of tourism; commercial recreation; tourism development.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the University and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community. Support Winona State University’s mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.
  • Assist with programmatic accreditation/review.
  • Supervise interns and/or practicum students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have a minimum of at least one degree (Master’s or PH.D) in recreation, parks, tourism or leisure studies by appointment date.. Applicants working towards a Ph.D. with a documented plan of completion will also be considered.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses within the RTTR department.
  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Potential to collaborate with others within the department to contribute to a culture of teamwork.
  • Potential to contribute to the university and the field through academic service and public engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovative and quality teaching for an array of courses in Recreation and Tourism.
  • Professional experience in event management, tourism, leisure, and/or closely related fields.
  • Experience integrating experiential learning and/or community engagement projects into the curriculum.
  • Planning and leadership experience with travel studies and/or study abroad.
  • Experience in course development and curriculum review.
  • Involvement in professional associations and organizations (example: IFEA, TIES, NRPA, RCRA, TTRA, WLO, ALS)
  • Experience mentoring students and supervising interns.
