Assistant Professor of Anthropology (focusing on Human Response to Climate Risk)

The Department of Anthropology (https://anth.la.psu.edu/) at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, PA, USA, invites applications for a tenure-line Assistant Professor position starting Fall 2023. We seek anthropologists engaged in public-facing scholarship that expands and promotes understanding human responses to climate risk and environmental change. Applications are encouraged from scholars whose research features human ecology/ethnography, visual anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, or integrative research among these subdisciplines. Regardless of methodological or regional specialization, their scholarship should feature public engagement and be conducted in collaboration with descendant/stakeholder communities.

Candidates must demonstrate ability for effective teaching at university levels, the potential to obtain external funding, a record of academic outputs, and an innovative and integrative research program involving community engagement. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to or envision contributing towards building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community. A Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field must be completed by the time of appointment. Duties will involve a combination of teaching and research, based on the candidate's qualifications.

Applicants can apply through Penn State's Job Posting Board and should include three PDFs: 1) a curriculum vitae detailing the candidate's educational background, employment history, grants, and publications; 2) a maximum five-page statement summarizing the candidate's research program vision, teaching experience and interests, and how their research, teaching, and/or service relate to a commitment to diversity and inclusion; and 3) the names, addresses, and emails of three references.

Candidates are expected to address how they might integrate with one or more of the following: Social Sciences Research Institute (https://ssri.psu.edu), Institutes of Energy and the Environment (https://iee.psu.edu), Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (https://www.huck.psu.edu), the Rock Ethics Institute (https://rockethics.psu.edu), and other Penn State interdisciplinary programs such as the Climate Science Dual-Title Ph.D. Program (http://www.met.psu.edu/academics/graduate-studies/climate-science-dual-title-phd-program).

Review of applications will begin November 15, 2022.
