Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration in serving all undergraduate and graduate students at the University.  The Director will provide direct supervision for the Center for Campus Life, which includes:

  • Major events and programs
  • New Student Orientation
  • 300+ student clubs and organizations
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life
  • Women, Gender, Sexuality, LGBTQIA+, and Intersectional programming
  • Spirituality and Religious Life
  • Commuter services
  • Management of Union Complex
  • Tech Crew Student
  • Organization and Center financial and business operations

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the leadership team in the center for campus life; support and provide guidance as they develop and enhance their programs; assist them with goal setting, prioritization, personnel matters, budget development, and operational functions.
  • Establish a clear vision with goals and metrics to measure success and make changes required for improvement and implement short and long-range goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate program and service effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain fiscal oversight of a complex, revenue and operating budget totaling over 4 million dollars.  Support the system of internal controls developed by the University and the division.
  • Develop and implement services, activities, and opportunities that enhance the student experience and promote student participation in campus life with the specific purpose of increasing student retention, persistence, graduation rates, and developing students to become life/work ready graduates.
  • Develop new initiatives to involve faculty, staff, and alumni in promoting and developing programs and services that support the student experience at RIT.
  • Work in collaboration with the offices that make up the division of student affairs, colleagues across the university, and members of the local community to establish a student-centered program which supports the mission of RIT.
  • Meet with students to resolve complex issues, make appropriate referrals, and conduct follow-up services as needed.
  • Communicate the work of the center for campus life, , to constituents through well written and compelling reports, presentations, and publications and through service on divisional and university committees, task forces and work teams as assigned.
  • Serve as an administrative advisor to RIT Student Government.

 

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in related field

 

EXPERIENCE

  • A record of 6-8 years of upper level leadership experience focused on promoting student development and facilitating relationships to support and sustain a comprehensive student focused organization.
  • Strong fiscal planning and budget management abilities.
  • Leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Experience and evidence in employing a data-driven approach to generating measurable (quantitative and qualitative) outcomes and guiding others in the process. 

 

SPECIALIZED SKILLS

  • Record of accomplishment in promoting student development programs, support services, and supervision of professional staff.
  • Previous experience planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating performance and outcome measures of programs and services.
  • Fiscal planning and budget management abilities.
  • Effective verbal, written, and digital communication skills, including the ability to facilitate discussion and write clear and concise reports.
  • Possess a deep understanding of a diverse student body and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and cross-cultural issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and provide successful oversight of people, budget, and space, as well as, a commitment to clarity and accountability.
  • Recognized as an effective advocate who exhibits high ethical standards of conduct and confidentiality in dealing with various internal and external constituencies.
  • Competent in ASL or willing to develop such competence.

 

OPTIONAL
