JOB DUTIES:

The Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies (HCS) at the University of South Florida, Tampa campus seeks to fill a Full-Time, Non-Tenure-Earning, Permanent position for Assistant Professor of Instruction. Expected start date is August 7, 2023. This is a 9-month instructional position with a 4/4 load.

The Assistant Professor of Instruction will regularly teach HUM 1020: Introduction to Humanities, a course focused on contextualized, close-readings of a variety of expressive media such as film, digital media, visual art, music, and literature. Preferred areas of specialization include black cultural studies, afro-latinx studies, sound studies, indigenous studies, eco-criticism, 19th-century colonialism, feminism, race, ethnicity, and social justice. 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

HCS is an interdisciplinary department with faculty working in a variety of fields, including American studies, film and media, history, art history, musicology, and philosophy. We offer BA and MA degrees in three areas of concentration: American studies, film studies, and humanities. HCS is committed to creating a more intellectually diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution, and encourages Black, Latina/o/x, Native American, and other historically underrepresented candidates to apply. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A PhD in a humanistic field of study is REQUIRED. Applications from individuals who are ABD will be accepted, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given for a candidate whose work is interdisciplinary and who is capable of teaching multiple forms of art, culture, and media in social and historical context. Preferred areas of specialization include black cultural studies, afro-latinx studies, sound studies, indigenous studies, eco-criticism, 19th-century colonialism, feminism, race, ethnicity, and social justice.
