Job Details

The Department of Visual Arts at Union College seeks applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography, beginning September 1st, 2023. Primary responsibilities include teaching two in-person courses in each of three ten-week terms (six contact hours per week per course, six courses per year). At least one introductory course in Photography is required of Visual Arts majors. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory 35mm film developing and wet darkroom techniques (two or three courses), intermediate digital and color processes (two courses), and possibly an intermediate or advanced thematic or process-specific course, depending on the candidate's field of specialty and departmental needs. Candidates may also expect to work with senior majors, honors thesis students, and advanced independent study students as necessary. Additional responsibilities will include supervising the photography lab technician and oversight of the Photography budget for the duration of the appointment. Visitors are eligible to apply for funding to support their creative scholarly work during their appointment. The Visual Arts Department supports a new General Education curriculum with increased focus on Global Challenges and Justice, Equity, Inclusion, and Difference in our Creative Arts and Design courses. Minimum Qualifications
A Master of Fine Arts degree from an accredited institution
Minimum two years' experience teaching Photography at the college level, including wet darkroom and digital practices
Strong exhibition record with evidence of an active, ongoing studio practice
Demonstrated experience with teaching a range of photographic processes and techniques
