Assistant Professor in Marine Science
The School of the Coastal Environment within the Gupta College of Science at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a nine-month Assistant Professor tenure track position in the Department of Marine Science beginning in August 2022. Applicants with a degree in physical oceanography or a related marine science field are invited to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory marine science, an upper-level physical oceanography lecture and laboratory, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses within the applicant’s area of expertise. Specifically, a coastal ocean experimentalist is sought with experience in either curation and/or analysis ofin-situ, remote sensing,and/or laboratory measurements. Applicants with research programs focused on applied environmental issues in the coastal zone and/or utilizing remote sensing techniques are particularly encouraged. The new faculty member is expected to develop a viable externally funded research program actively involving undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in marine science or a related field, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Coastal Carolina University is rapidly expanding and building upon a historic emphasis on the marine sciences. Marine Science is one of the largest undergraduate degrees within CCU, committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary research, and education. The department also offers an M.S. in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies and a Ph.D. in Marine Science. Within the School of the Coastal Environment, the Burroughs and Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies maintains an array of instrumentation for broad pursuits of geophysical research. The University maintains a fleet of vessels ranging from small skiffs to a 50-ft. aluminum vessel with an A-frame. The Gupta College of Science also includes an emerging engineering program that offers the potential for collaboration with faculty engaged in related issues. The University manages the Anne Tilghman Boyce Coastal Reserve, an undeveloped complex of ocean frontage, fresh and saltwater marshes, tidal creeks, and upland woods on Waties Island that provides teaching and research opportunities. The coastline in this region contains extensive areas of beach shoreline, landward saltmarsh, tidal creek, and wetland systems.
Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort city of Myrtle Beach.
