  The University of Oregon School of Law is a dynamic, ABA-accredited law school and Oregon's only public law school. Oregon Law's Legal Research and Writing (LRW) Program was established in 1978 and, through innovative programming and commitment to teaching excellence, continues to lead in the field. US News and World Report has ranked Oregon's LRW Program in the top ten legal writing programs for fifteen consecutive years; for the past two years, our program has been ranked #1. The LRW Program benefits from significant donor support through the Galen Endowment, which funds a rotating Galen Scholar in Legal Writing, an annual Galen Distinguished Guest in Legal Writing, a pre-orientation program for nontraditional and underrepresented students, and other programming that enhances law student writing. The LRW faculty are nationally recognized and highly regarded within the law school.
  
  The Oregon LRW team is a dedicated and productive group. LRW faculty work collaboratively in a supportive environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and open dialogue. LRW faculty are supported by a designated program manager, upper-level peer tutors, and an exceptional team of reference librarians.
  Position Summary
  
  The assistant clinical professor in LRW will primarily teach in our first-year curriculum. LRW is a required six-credit, two-semester course that integrates research, analysis, and writing as well as other professional skills that complement the core curriculum. LRW faculty rotate teaching upper-level writing courses, and some teach doctrinal law courses when interests and needs allow.
  
  LRW faculty serve on and frequently chair faculty committees and vote on all faculty matters except promotion to a rank they do not hold. Each faculty member receives professional development funds for travel and research assistance. Clinical professors follow a promotional track from assistant, to associate, to a full clinical professor. LRW faculty are eligible for paid sabbaticals after six years of teaching and successful promotion.
  Minimum Requirements
  
  
• JD or its equivalent.
  
• Two years in legal practice after law school (e.g., law firm, government agency, in-house, nonprofit, judicial clerkship).
  
• Strong record of academic excellence.
  Professional Competencies
  
  
• Excellent skills in legal writing, research, and oral communication.
  
• Proven (or potential for) excellence in teaching.
  
• Commitment to teaching legal research, legal writing, and legal analysis to first-year students.
  
• Indicia of continuing professional development (e.g., through publications, presentations, engagement in national organizations).
  
• Demonstrated or potential ability to provide written and oral feedback to guide student writers through multiple drafts to produce a professional work product.
  
• Demonstrated ability to 1) work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from culturally diverse backgrounds and with multiple intersectional identities; and 2) advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the university community.
  
• Strong interpersonal skills and characteristics that will contribute positively to LRW team dynamics and collegiality.
  Preferred Qualifications
  
  
• Experience teaching legal research and writing or transferrable skills from other teaching experience.
  
• Experience working with diverse learners with a range of foundational skills.
  
• Knowledge of learning and pedagogical theories.
  
• Demonstrated interest in and involvement with the legal writing community and/or professional organizations related to teaching law.
